We still have CSA shares available for the 2019-2020 season! Know your farmer, feed yourself well, contribute to your community in all these ways!
This drawing is so great! I'd love it on wallpaper. (And credit to Phoebe Wahl for the beautiful work!)
There are so many reasons I think it's important to support local farmers (not just because I am one, we also buy from other local farmers who grow things we don't).
I actually think it can be summed up in the 4 principles of Organic: Ecology, Health, Fairness, and Care.
As farmers who sell directly to our customers, we can talk about and share stories of the ways both ends of this (very short) food chain express our values.
We can share the ways we honour our local ecology and we can hear how our customers' expectations are aligned or other expectations they have of us.
We take steps to ensure that we're always contributing to our customers' health and hear their health needs and see the benefits directly before us.
We can ask for a fair price (the price we need to continue growing) and experience our customers' trust in us and their response that it is also a fair price for them.
We can showcase our care for them, the wider community (including those who will never be our customers) and all the other species we share this earth with through honouring our collective resources (soil, water, air, biodiversity) and working to improve their health and balance.
All of this is so much easier to do when none of us are nameless and faceless in each other's lives.
