The final chapter of Denali's story brings us to Twisted T and Tiffany Thomerson.

Tiffany calls Denali their favorite girl. She describes her as calm and sweet despite her large build and approximately five-foot horn span. Denali enjoys attention, shares her calves with them, and has continued producing year after year.

Tiffany told us something that really stayed with us: “she is what we want to produce.”
That may be the simplest way to understand why Denali matters to Highland Dale.

We can talk about her 11-generation maternal line. We can talk about the important Highland genetics in her pedigree. But when someone who has lived with a cow tells you that she is the kind of cow they want to produce, that tells you something a pedigree can't.

Denali isn't at Highland Dale anymore. But her story passed through our valley and we are excited to extend her story in our herd book.

We're interested in the genetics, the mothers, the daughters, the people behind these cows—and the generations that come next.
That's Highland Dale.

Meet JHN Denali.

JHN Denali was one of the first cows to walk on our farm at AAA Quality Cattle / Highland Dale. Denali is part of the story of the cattle and genetics we are documenting here into our herdbook.

Denali was bred by Calley Bailey and born in 2009. Her pedigree carries 11 generations of direct maternal ancestry, reaching back to 1953, and connects her to many of the Highland names we continue to find throughout the pedigrees of the cows that have shaped Highland Dale.

But a pedigree only tells part of a cow's story.

The rest comes from the people who have known her, raised her calves, and watched what she produced.

So we're going to tell Denali's story in a few chapters. It takes us from Elm Hollow Farm to Twisted T—and gives us a look at the kind of cow people remember.

This is Denali.
