The first Oktoberfest took place in Munich, Germany, on October 12, 1810, to celebrate a royal wedding. To this day, it’s celebrated on the very same fairground where that first party took place. Imagine throwing such an amazing wedding that people around the globe are still celebrating it over two centuries later!
These days, the Theresienwiese fairgrounds swell with literally millions of revelers (an estimated 6.5 million last year) from late September through early October. Partiers will enjoy classic malty Märzen and the more modern Festbier—two iconic styles of German lager.
