A word of caution to fellow breeders: Be diligent when choosing a company to collect and process frozen semen from your bucks. Ask questions, understand their procedures, and ensure there are appropriate quality-control measures and safeguards in place to verify that every straw is accurately identified and contains semen from the correct buck.
To me, a company’s integrity is not measured by its ability to operate without ever making a mistake. Mistakes happen, and they are forgivable when they are acknowledged, addressed, and corrected.
What concerns me is not necessarily the mistake itself, but the absence of accountability, open communication, or even a simple apology when one occurs. How a company handles a mistake speaks volumes about its professionalism and commitment to its customers.
As a failsafe for your own herds integrity, ALWAYS DNA your AI kids whether it’s required or not. DO NOT assume the correct buck is in that straw. It’s always been a conundrum to me that DNA is required for bucks but not for progeny created through AI. Which in my humble opinion should have always been a rule.
