Volume up. Heard a familiar call this afternoon that we haven’t heard in a while. I like to think that it means we’re doing something right and hopefully he’ll stick around.

“Pink sky at night, grazing cows delight.” Or something like that, I can never remember.

Proud of this kid. Mama out of town, he asked me “What do you have to do today?”
Told him I needed to move the cows, along with other chores, and he said “I can do that.”
Took the ranger all by himself, picked up a bunch of temporary fences, set up a new paddock, and got the cows moved. I guess he’s been paying attention.

COMING IN HOT!! First round of chickens arrived today with only minor issues. Whole chickens, legs, and thighs are back in stock. Come see us and stock up. I’m gonna go see if I can get this tire patched.

A shower and cooler temps has the cows feeling good. Mama cow wasn’t interested in playing, but the other young ones were having fun.

Porter wanted to make a video to advertise his egg business. His rooster, Oscar (the grouch), wasn't having it!

Two things I want to show with this post. The first is that the farm isn’t always pretty. This is where I fed hay for a month and what’s left usually looks pretty rough. The second thing I want to show today is how nature is a great metaphor for life. Before something can get better we usually have to break it down first. Like a wildfire across the prairie or moving my chicken tractors across the field. I chose this spot in the field because it was an under producing area. By feeding the cows here I’ve introduced lots of nutrients through hay and the animal waste. It will take a while for it all to be broken down and incorporated into the soil, but when it is, this area will be much better than before. So just because your life may seem bare and covered in s**t, just hang on because great things are coming.
