First few days with our little baby… meeting the aunties, first trip to the barn, copying mama in rolling and grazing, trying out his legs for running, finding out which aunties are friendly and which are too pregnant… fresh crias on the farm are lots of fun!

If there is an open bag of fiber in the barn, I’m likely to find a cat in it. I sacrifice my bag of thirds to the cats - it protects my nicer, more usable fiber from their rummaging and allows my thirds to be put to use. We may be on to something here…. alpaca fiber pet beds??? I bet all the barn cats wish they could be so pampered 🤣

Onto cria season. It’s a boy! 💙

Our first baby was born yesterday, 6 days before his due date. During my morning observations I was confident enough that there was not a baby coming that we went to church. A couple hours later we came home and there he was, walking around the pasture! He’s a strong, healthy, and handsome boy with a good, stealthy mama 🤣. Farmers are very happy.

Chickens are so entertaining. It’s funny even when they run. They are like Pavlov’s dogs - the sound of the 4-wheeler has them running for food. When the farmer only fixes their coop door, they chase the 4-wheeler back to the barn 😅.

Annabelle found out what it feels like to take a spit hit right in the face. She wasn’t even being rude, poor girl. I helped her get cleaned up, all was well.

Spring is here, so here’s our winter on the farm recap. This was such a mild winter. And still, every year I walk outside one day and realize the grass is green again. And I’m surprised winter went by so fast. Here’s to the next season on the farm! 🌷
