It’s official… we bought our little piece of heaven. 🌳❤️

After more than a year of searching, visiting properties, researching wetlands, zoning and legal access, emailing counties, making offers, getting rejected and getting outbid… we finally found THE ONE.

Woods, palmettos, beautiful oaks, wildlife, water… and a whole lot of work ahead of us. 😂 And we couldn’t be more excited.

We’re not coming into this with an unlimited budget or a crew of people doing the work for us. We’re building our homestead the way we can—one paycheck, one project and one lesson at a time.

We’ll be sharing the progress every week: what works, what doesn’t, what we learn, what we screw up, and hopefully a pretty incredible transformation along the way.

And if you’re dreaming of finding your own little piece of heaven, ask away! We learned A LOT during this process, and I’m happy to share what we learned along the way.

This is just the beginning.

Hive Inspection — Part 2: The Spicy Girls 🌶️

Well… the spicy girls definitely lived up to their name. 😂🌶️🐝

I opened up the hive and found the queen 👑, which was a relief, but overall this colony is looking pretty weak. I also found a queen cell with a dead bee inside — definitely something I’ll be keeping an eye on.

I gave them some sugar water to help them along, closed everything back up, and decided they’d had enough disturbance for one day.

And apparently, so had they… because they sent me off with two stings as a parting gift. 😂🐝

Not every inspection brings good news, but that’s part of learning to keep bees. Now we watch, learn, and see how my spicy girls do. 🤞🍯

Another week, another fridge AND freezer full. 👩🏻‍🍳🔥

This week’s meal prep:

🍗 Pollo fricassee with white rice
🥩 Carne mechada with black beans + crispy tostones
🐷 Chuletas de cerdo al mojo with mashed potatoes
🍳 English muffin breakfast sandwiches with ham, cheese, pepperoni + eggs for the freezer
🍫 Boxed cake topped with homemade chocolate ganache because dessert doesn’t need to be complicated 😂
🐶 And, of course, homemade food for the dogs.

A few hours of cooking, a LOT of dishes 😅, and now we have homemade meals ready to go for the week — plus breakfast waiting in the freezer.

This is exactly why I meal prep. 🙌🏼

I went out to admire my zinnias and found this mysterious little vine weaving its way through them—with the prettiest tiny purple ruffled bloom. 💜

I definitely didn’t plant it, so now I need my plant people:

What is this vine? Should I give it something to climb, or pull it before it takes over? 👀🌿

Some days the animals cooperate...

Today was not one of those days. 😂🦃

Good thing the bloopers are just as entertaining as the final video. Who else has an animal that refuses to follow the script?

A simple jar of pickled jalapeños means a little more when you picked every pepper yourself. 🌶️🌿

My favorite way to make them is with fresh jalapeños from the garden, olives, mini onions, and mini pickles. Simple ingredients, full of flavor, and one more way to make the most of the harvest.
