October is such a difficult month for so many of us homestead moms that have had breast cancer themselves or watched a family member struggle. Please know you are never alone! Your circle loves you!
This is a photo of my son and me before cancer became part of our lives. đź’—
I’m sharing it this October because behind Blue Meadow Studios is a person, a mother, and a life that has included breast cancer.
It feels vulnerable to bring that part of my story here. It’s easier to share what I’m building than to talk about something so personal. But this photograph holds a moment I treasure, and it reminds me that there is so much more to a person than a diagnosis.
Behind every pink ribbon is someone with a family, ordinary routines, unfinished plans, and people they love. Someone whose life matters far beyond their illness.
If you’re going through something difficult right now, I hope you hear this: you still matter on the days when all you can do is get through the day. Rest does not erase your courage. Asking for help does not diminish your strength.
You are worthy of love and care exactly where you are. You can be frightened and still have hope. You can feel grateful and overwhelmed at the same time. There is room for all of it.
As I build Blue Meadow Studios, I carry my experiences with me—and the hope of creating something that brings children and families comfort, connection, and moments of joy. There are still dreams I want to pursue and things I want to put into the world. Taking one small step toward them matters to me.
This month, I’m thinking of those in treatment, those living with metastatic breast cancer, those navigating life afterward, and the families missing someone they love.
You don’t owe anyone a brave face or a cheerful ending. You deserve companionship and someone willing to listen.
If these words made you think of someone, please send this post to them with a little message: “I’m thinking of you. You don’t have to carry this alone.” Sometimes knowing someone remembers us can make a difficult day feel a little less lonely.
Thank you for making space for this part of my story. đź’—
