Beth and I sponsor a bred and owned award for market steers and breeding heifers. To win this award the market steer or heifer must have been bred to a cow owned by the exhibitor, their parents, or grandparents. The purpose is to provide an incentive for the exhibitor and their families to breed their own animals and bring those offspring to the fair rather than purchase animals from another breeder. The placings are determined in the placing order specified by the judge in the market and breeding classes. This is the 4th year we’ve sponsored this award.

The 2026 Market Steer award goes to Easton Higgins. Easton brought an extremely high quality market steer that was from one of his cows at home. Easton has done a great job this year with his market project. Congratulations Easton!
