This Memorial Day, I’m reminded that freedom isn’t just protected on foreign soil — it’s also preserved in places like this.
Old barns. Family farms. Quiet sunsets. Grandkids running through the grass. Traditions worth passing on.
As a veteran, I’ve learned that some of the most important things in life can’t be measured in dollars. Peace, heritage, family, and the simple ability to gather together on land that has stories older than any of us.
Here at Windy Hills, we’re trying to keep something alive — not just a pumpkin patch or popcorn field, but a way of life. A place where kids can unplug, families can slow down, and people can remember what rural America once felt like.
Today we honor those who gave everything so places like this could still exist.
To all veterans, families, and those we’ve lost — thank you.
May we never forget the cost of freedom.

“The 2026 Popcorn Crop Is Going In”
Today we planted this year’s Windy Hills popcorn crop here on our Illinois family farm.
What starts as a kernel in spring becomes fresh popcorn, kettle corn, and fall memories for families later in the season.
This is real farming — soil, hard work, old traditions, and hope for a good crop.
We can’t wait to share it with everyone this fall at Windy Hills Pumpkin Patch.
