We weaned our commercial fall calves today. We are extremely dry right now (this is one of the driest spring/summers we’ve had in several years) yet these Brangus and Ultrablack females still did a great job raising these calves!! That is why we love this breed - the mix of maternal excellence and growth potential they possess is hard to match !! The first two pictures are our heifers - the next two are some of our steers.

Saul Longmire 30N3 will turn 8 months old next week. He is the first calf of CRC Miss Empower 30L86 who we purchased from Chimney Rock Cattle Company - Geneplus Member. We plan to send to him to Gene Plus for their sale next Spring.

Today we had an awsome day fishing the Kenai River. While the trout weren’t being very cooperative - the action heated up when we got into the sockeye salmon. Today we also saw moose, dall sheep, and bald eagles!

Today we made the drive from Anchorage up Turnagain Arm (about a 45 mile drive) to Portage Lake. The drive up Turnagain Arm is spectacular as the coastal mountains literally spring up from the water on both sides of Turnagain Arm. Lake Portage is a glacial lake that feeds Portage Creek. Ballard and Dax “pack rafted” down Portage Creek and we picked them up where the creek emptied into Turnagain Arm.

Some amazing views from Denali National Park. Denali ‘AKA Mt. McKinley’ is the highest peak in North America. In the first picture you can see the peak of Denali ABOVE the clouds. We are about 40 miles from Denali in the first picture!!
