Good pasture starts with knowing what’s happening beneath it.

We collect soil samples so we know what each pasture actually needs before making decisions about fertility.

It’s a pretty simple job, but an important part of taking better care of the land our cattle depend on.

Hay season at Blackwater Pastures.

About 146 rolls put up from roughly 15 acres. Winter feed for the mama cows and another important job checked off the list.

There’s a lot of work behind a pasture full of hay, but it’s a good sight when it’s finished.

Turns out it’s pretty hard to hold a camera while driving a four wheeler, tossing out fence posts, hammering them into the ground, and pretending everything is under control.

But the fence got built, the camera survived, and the cattle got fresh grass. We’re calling that a successful morning at Blackwater Pastures.
