Piece of Wild Flower Farm

Spring is on the horizon here at Piece of Wild Flower Farm! Lots of wheelbarrows of compost and mulch, and hours of broadforking later and we finished prepping two new rows this weekend! We broadfork our rows to improve aeration and overall soil health while minimizing the amount of microbe and organism disturbance in the soil. I also did the largest succession sowing of seeds thus far!

Happy snow day Raleigh!!! Although it may be cold outside all of the hardy annuals in the low tunnel are very happy! And spring seed sowing has begun! Looking forward to a fun flower season ahead 🌸💐❄️☃️

Thank you friends for an amazing first season of sharing our cut flowers with our community! It was truly such a joy, and I am looking forward to bringing more varieties of flowers next Spring!

A light frost arrived this week… combined with cooler days, our flowers have really slowed down. Our cut flower season is coming to a close, we may or may not open our flower stand another week or two with this warmup happening next week. In other news we finished our fencing and set up our low tunnel (partially) and planted hardy annuals!

Prepping the future growing space! So far we have removed the silage tarp, brought in several yards of compost, broad forked the rows and mulched a walking path. These are 2 of 4 future rows that we will start to over-winter some hardy annuals.

Continue to follow for more updates (building low tunnel system, 2 more rows, and deer fencing)!

We are excited to see what this future growth will bring next Spring.
