Sorry, I forgot to make the weekly milk truck post on Sunday. πŸ₯΄
The milk truck came today and will come again on Friday and Sunday.
Also, if you haven't yet, be sure to read Michael's previous post about the A2A2 status of the milk in the big tank now! πŸŽ‰

I (Cora) am still in the NICU with our now 4 week old baby. She's gained 2 # already. Really hoping and praying to get to come home with her in the next weeks time!

Also, the turtles must be looking for places to make their nests as I've heard that they're really out and about right now. Michael sent me a photo of this colorful one.

Well folks, the day has arrived. Our milk is now 100% a2a2! I still have two a1a2 cows on the place but they aren't milking right now, and I'm hoping to move them to new homes by the end of the month. But all our milking cows and all our replacement heifers are a2a2 now and we aim to keep it that way. By the way, we've been selling a2a2 milk at $6/gal before because of the extra expense of running the extra tank and the extra work for me, but now that ALL the milk is a2a2, the price will be the same as "regular" was, $5 per gallon. Enjoy!
A little commentary on this picture: the grass on the right side of the wire was what the cattle grazed today, and you can see how trampled down it is. That's a good thing, that thatch of "wasted" grass covers the soil, keeping it cooler and more moist and safer for all those earthworms that tunnel around in the soil and meed to have a safe place to come up once in a while. This trample happened today because I combined my milking herd with my herd of youngstock for better soil impact and easier pasture and fencing management. To the left of the wire you see the grass standing up a lot more. That was yesterday's paddock when I didn't have the extra critters helping out. Now we'll really start making progress regenerating the soil on our multi- generational family farm!

Michael D

Howdy folks!
We'll see if I can stick to it or not, but I want to make a series of posts showing you some of the stuff that goes on around here. Here's a starter anyway:
I took this picture from the top of our big blue Harvestore silo today. You can see my Dad chopping hay with the green tractor, and shortly after I took the picture I was blowing that "haylage" up into the silo, where it ferments and can be stored safely for a year or more. The big brown area on the left is where I experimented with "bale grazing" this spring, letting the cows eat their hay bales on the field so the the waste hay gets trampled down and fertilized with their, um, excrement. In a year or two that should be the most fertile soil on the farm.
To the right of that you see the dark brown streak, that's where the cattle had been traveling through the mud to get to pasture, but I fenced them out of it recently to keep them cleaner. The near side of the brown steak is lighter colored, that's where they travel now, on solid ground.
In the background you see the cows, and if you look closely you can see the green streaks moving to the right of them where I've moved their fence every day, giving them fresh unsoiled grass to graze. With the rain it's recovering very nicely where they grazed before. Perhaps in a future post I'll get more in depth on the philosophy behind daily fence moves, but suffice to say for now, it's the best thing for cows and soil and plants, and this for the farm.
Lots to see in that picture! It's such a nice view up there, 60+ feet above the ground. . . Maybe I should offer to bring others up there to enjoy the view??

The milk truck came today and comes again on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Our sweet little pumpkin remains in the NICU. She is growing well (5 # now) but still has a ways to go. Thank you for all the prayers, well wishes, and meals that some of you so kindly brought to help us through this challenging time! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

The milk truck comes today (Sunday), Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week.

πŸŽ‰ Now for the big news! πŸŽ‰

Our baby girl arrived on Wednesday!! πŸ’– Coming at 32 weeks and 4 days, she weighed a cute little 3 # 13ozs. She'll be in the NICU for several weeks. I (Cora) plan to spend a good amount of time with baby Charity to help encourage her along as she works towards the goal of coming home as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Michael will be busy running the farm and we have both Grandmas and a family friend helping to take care of our other children. We feel very grateful to have such support!

A friend of ours has set up a meal train, so if you would like to bless our family with a meal, I'll share that link in a separate post and you can schedule a time when you'd be wanting to do that.

We appreciate all of love, prayers and support that you show our family!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day tomorrow.

Need rhubarb? We have plenty! The children harvested this and therefore will get the profits.... so they are hoping that someone is hungry for all the good pies, breads, muffins, sauces and cakes that can be made from rhubarb. πŸ˜„
