RIP to our rooster. 🐓🤍

You weren’t exactly the nicest guy, but you were our guy, and you were part of this little homestead.

We aren’t quite sure what happened, but with you gone, our little flock is down to just three hens, and the farm feels a whole lot quieter.

Funny how even the ones who give you a run for your money leave a space behind when they’re gone. You definitely kept things interesting around here!

We have plans to build a bigger and better coop with the home build scraps and eventually bring in a new flock, but for now, we’re letting things be a little quieter around the homestead.

You’re oddly missed. Rest easy Brewster the Rooster 🤍🐓

Did you know you can grow shiitake mushrooms on logs for YEARS? 🍄🌲

We inoculated these hardwood logs from our land with shiitake spawn, and now the boys get to help us harvest them.

This is our second flush on half of our logs, and once they're established, we can get a spring and fall harvest for several years as the logs slowly break down.

I love that the boys aren't just learning where food comes from..they're actually getting their hands in it.

Some days homeschool happens at the table.

Other days, it looks like hunting for mushrooms in the woods and filling a basket with something we grew ourselves. 🤎

Summer 2026, you were a busy one. ☀️💛

Building our dream, raising these boys, working hard, making memories, and somehow squeezing in plenty of fun along the way. The gooood stuff. 🤗

A full season of hard work, little adventures, big milestones, and the kind of everyday moments we’ll look back on and miss someday. ❤️
