September 21st marks International Plavac Mali Day, a day to celebrate the beauty of Plavacmali. The Croatian W**e Alliance, lead by two US w**e industry experts, is a group of global teams promoting Croatian w**es. This is the predominant Croatian indigenous red variety from the Dalmatian region of Croatia (vitis vinifera), which is typically harvested around the Fall Solstice, hence September 21 as the international day. As proven by a genetic study by UC Davies and University of Zagreb, Plavacmali is a descendant from Zinfandel (aka Tribidrag or Crljenak kaštelanski) which created a natural hybrid named Plavacmali, with another indigenous variety, Dobričić. Croatia has a unique w**e history dating back 5000 years, and four key w**e regions, each growing distinct grape variety.
