2026 honey on the left and 2025 on the right.

2026 honey is much lighter then last years. This years honey is mostly spring honey. 2026 honey is more delicate with a clean finish. The 2025 honey was a summer honey which is darker with a more robust flavor.

We have both available.

I’m still working on pulling supers from the last few apiaries.

Pooh bear 🐻 took a crack at getting into the hives. Luckily the straps held and the bees were able to defend their hives. The bear moved these hives about 10’ from where they were originally. I doubt the bear will be back it came for a meal and left with a swollen face.

The bees have been busy packing away the golden goodness. This makes the queen feel like there is not enough room in the hive. The queen takes half the hive and half the resources and finds a new bigger and better home. This is called swarming. I have been busy trying to prevent the hives from swarming. This makes the hives very large and very strong. The swarms in the photos are very large for this reason.

Yesterday was a busy day going through the hives. A lot of the hives are strong and gearing up to swarm. To deter them from swarming I remove swarm cells in the hives.
Below is a photo of a larva on a bed of royal jelly. Royal jelly is a nutrient dense food for the bees. Every bee larva gets some royal jelly. The amount of royal jelly a bee larva gets determines in it will be a queen or a worker bee.

This event is now happening Sunday April 26 11-7.

We will be at the Williams township food truck and vendor event Saturday April 25th.
We will be giving a native plant with any honey purchase to help support our local pollinators.

The native plants we will have available are anise hyssop, mountain mint, swamp milkweed and false sunflower.

Incase one plant is not enough the native plants are also available for purchase.

This winter has been the worse for my bees. I lost about 50% of my hives. Normally I lose 15-20%. The bees were good going into winter (low mite count good plenty of food). Unfortunately I have not figured out why so many hives died.
Spring is right around the corner. The hives I have left are very strong and are starting to raise brood. I will use these hives to make splits to replace some of the hives lost.
