Our Story
Marek Land and Livestock consists of cows, sows, and crops. The farm was established in 1896 and has grown to consist of pasture to run cows, barns to house sows and a boar stud, and land to grow corn and soybeans. As the agriculture industry changes, Marek Land and Livestock has continued to focus on raising a family, and there is no better way to do that than with livestock.
The discipline put into cleaning the barn, hours spent preparing the pigs to be ready in hopes of being competitive, evaluating the stock to understand what could make them better, and learning how to win and lose graciously. These are just a few of the qualities that will help our youth be most successful in life, no matter what path they choose.
Each person who steps into the farm to look at the stock or the exhibitors and families that have become lifelong friends over the years is an important aspect of the breeding program. We continue to prioritize raising high-quality livestock and plan to continue building our program for many years. Thanks to everyone who has believed in our program and continues to invest in the Marek Land and Livestock. We hope you visit Riverside, Iowa soon!

Earlier this month we completed a US Economics and Trade Policy virtual project, a regional South American project that included a panel discussion between local farmers and city government to discuss impacts of COVID and the trade war with China on the local agricultural economy. They also discussed the road to recovery post-pandemic.
They met with the Deputy City Manager of Iowa City, Redmund Jones II, who has a long history of city management all over the US. The City Manager's Office is the chief administrative office for the The City of Iowa City Government; it implements policy decisions of the City Council, and they oversee administration of City contracts, ex*****on of public improvement, maintenance of city facilities, and economic development.
Also in the discussion were members of the Marek Land and Livestock family farm as well as Jon Busswell, all very accomplished farmers in Iowa with international experience visiting customers on US trade missions, and for research.
Congratulations Michael Maddox on exhibiting the LIGHT WEIGHT DARK CROSS DIVISION CHAMPION at the 2020 Wyoming State Fair!
