We will have SHIITAKE SCHNITZELTASTING tomorrow and prepare them right in front of your eyes for you to convince yourself how tasty they are.

This is perfect mushroom season and our Shiitake Mushroom Farm has produced huge loads of mushrooms ready to be harvested!!!

Besides the many benefits to our health these mushrooms have an amazing meaty flavor.

Let‘s talk BEES!!! April 30th- 3pm

Are you interested in keeping bees? Do you have bees now? Have you tried beekeeping without success? Or maybe you are just curious about bees. We hope to have a discussion at Oak Shade Farm bee day on Saturday, April 30th at 3 pm that covers these topics. (Sunday, May 1st (3 pm) is the rain date)

Bees have resided here on the farm since its beginning in 1985. They have contributed to the economy of the farm, and they have provided the farmer with many hours of immersion while working them, and of contemplation while watching them work. Unlike many farm animals, like chickens, cows and sheep, the bees do not need the farmer to survive. Bees do very well in the wild on their own, and they can survive in a remarkable range of circumstances, from the tropics to the tundra.

We will talk about our experiences with bees at our farm, and have a discussion with our guests regarding their experiences. We will explore the reasons people keep bees, the expenses related to beekeeping, and the rewards.

Spring at Oak Shade Farm: everything blooms! Everything shoots out of the ground! We plant, and plant, and plant more and enjoy the renewal of nature’s energy that explodes in so many colors on our trail in the woods. Come and walk our beautiful cabin trail and pick up a free Eastern white pine tree at our farm store - they make great Christmas trees!!!
And while there seems to be a shortage of eggs everywhere right now we have an abundance and offer happy chicken eggs at $4 / dozen this weekend!!!

Our farm store in Rixeyville VA will open this Friday and Saturday from 9AM til 5 PM and thereafter every Friday an Saturday. You can find many wooden items, order Adirondack furniture, buy jams, honey, lemon curd, fresh eggs, baked goods, potted plants and trees, hooked rugs, beeswax candles, cards weaving, pottery, sculptures, antiques and more. Our Parking lot and trails are still covered in stubborn snow and ice. Because of that, and the predicted 24 degrees as a high tomorrow, we decided to wait until next Friday, (1/28) to officially open. We look forward to visiting with you all soon!

We are so happy to be able to offer Papa Jim’s Special Honey.

The bees that made this honey received no pesticide treatments or supplemental sugar syrup.

No purchased wax foundation was used to avoid importing pesticides… the bees made their own wax!

You would have to climb a tree to raid a wild hive to duplicate this honey.

In 10 days, on Saturday the 22nd, we will open Oak Shade Farm Store.
We are excited to become a destination for old friends and new friends, people who like crafts, people who like art, people who like good food, people who like plants and those who like antiques!
Oak Shade Farm Store is located at 14455 Waterford Run Lane in Rixeyville, just one mile off of 229. It will be open on a regular basis on Fridays and Saturdays from 9AM - 5PM.
