Weekly Updates - PLEASE READ!!!!
This week has been a busy week for us! Beef restock is in, unfortunately we only got 8 packages of filets. We had 1/4 sold already. I am diligently trying to get through my backlog of filets requests. If you are wanting filets please let me know. I am finalizing details on partnership and need to know what our needs are for in between processing.
Chickens Processing - Unfortunately we are not going to have chickens processed next week. As some of you know already. Early in the season our birds were attacked and we lost a lot of them. I replaced the birds in an effort to replenish and they were attacked again. I have less than 40 birds out of the 400+ birds we started with. It’s been an awful experience this year. Our processor will not do batches less than 100. So we will be processing these ones ourselves. I will not sell our birds we process.
What does this mean for chicken? I have decided to turn my lemons into lemonade. I am going to purchase another set of birds and set up a 9 week class for instruction of raising birds for food. I will create an event for signups for the class. We will meet once a week and go over the details of caring for the birds from chick to processing. It is important to us that we educate those who would like to learn how to raise their own food. During this weekly session, we will go over the fundamentals of raising the birds, feed and nutrition management, tracking trends and weights, and basic care and needs for creating a safe and healthy environment for them. Added bonus - Cornish are the friendliest birds and you will get lots of cuddle sessions in too!
Meet the babies for littles is being postponed this weekend due to a prior commitment the farm has this weekend. I will post a notice for the next cuddle session with our baby chicks and ducklings.
