Kerr Beef

Kerr Beef Kerr Beef is small, family owned beef farm specializing in Angus-based beef

Kerr Beef is raised on Limestone Farm, a family farm founded in 1873 in Rockford, Tennessee. It has been in continuous operation for 147 years and is designated as a Tennessee Century Farm. The current owner/operator is John Kerr, a 5th generation livestock producer recognized by the University of Tennessee as an Advanced Master Beef Producer, assisted by his son Andy (6th generation) and somewhat

assisted by young grandchildren, Sam, William, and Piper (7th generation). Our cattle are primarily Angus, but we have crossbred over the years with Hereford, Simmental, Gelbvieh and recently Shorthorn and Wagyu to improve marbling. While top-notch herd sires have always been a key ingredient in our program, we have significantly upgraded the genetics of our cows by using artificial insemination every year for the last 37 years. For over 75 years we have been a cow/calf operation, selling feeder calves for someone else to finish. Recently, however, we have decided that since our calves are so sound genetically, so healthy, and so docile, we should finish them ourselves, taking full advantage of their potential and providing local consumers with some very special beef. Our cattle eat grass year round and are raised humanely and naturally with no growth hormones and generally no antibiotics (only if prescribed by our veterinarian to combat infection due to injury or illness). For optimal taste in Kerr Beef we like to finish our calves with a grain supplement to their forage diet for 90 to 100 days. In the future, depending on demand, we may offer totally grass-fed beef in addition to grain-fed. We would be happy to answer any questions or to schedule a visit if you want to see our farm and our contented cattle.
