ARTIST FEATURE: Jamie Spooner is an artist and a videographer. Jamie is me:) I am the co-organizer of the Rockland Winter Artisan Fair and the one who has been filming artisans and posting on this account. Sadly, I ran out of time to do my own video(!) and so in lieu of a video I will share a little about myself below!
My painting style is fun, light, and colorful. I want people to feel peaceful, relaxed, and happy when they see my work. While that may sound contrived and simplistic, it is true. I basically want people to be happy.
I am an illustrator at heart and have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a small New England tourist town where I was selling my work on the sidewalk at age 6. At that age, these were drawings of animals. I followed a creative career path in Advertising and founded a Design and Marketing company that I ran for 16 years with focus on web design, branding, video and eventually animation. Today, I am drawing/painting a few animals (birds and dogs) but my subject is mainly Maine landscapes with a focus on the drama of light. I also do commissions. If someone told me 20 years ago that I would be painting puppies and sunsets, I would have said “puppies—yes! Sunsets are cheesy.” But the sunsets and sunrises are amazing in Maine. And somehow, I cannot help it:)
If you are following this event, have a great time tomorrow! Good food! Cash Bar! Great art! Live music! A raffle that benefits dogs, cats, and people! What is more fun than that? The event is at the Rockland Elks Lodge from 2-7 pm. It is FREE admission. There is also an ATM on site for convenience.
