Hi, I'm Margaret Kordonowy, one of the proud owners of Five Creeks Farm in Tennessee. In April 2021, my husband and I bought this farm with the goal of enhancing the soil to create a better carbon sink and restore ecological balance. The property already had 21 cattle and fencing, wh

ich seemed ideal. However, we quickly learned from regenerative farmer Daniel Griffith that our soil was in much worse shape than we had thought—overgrazed for nearly 100 years, with short grass roots, barren patches, poor water retention, and depleted minerals. Inspired by Allan Savory's TED talk, "How to fight desertification and reverse climate change," and his book Holistic Management, I dove deep into regenerative farming during the Covid isolation. As I approached 60, I reflected on how I wanted to spend the rest of my life, deciding to give back to the earth by improving the land we live on. Daniel helped us divide the fields into paddocks for planned grazing and introduced a mineral bar for the cattle to self-select needed nutrients, completing the mineral cycle through their grazing and manure. I also studied Temple Grandin's teachings on handling livestock, learning the importance of calmness and patience with these animals. We adhere strictly to natural practices, using only manure and urine to fertilize the soil and avoiding vaccines, antibiotics, and parasitic medications. Today, after practicing rotational cattle grazing for three years, we have been able to regenerate the depleted soil on our 262 acres. Doc Holiday, our South Poll bull, was added to our herd to enhance our grass-based grazing system. This breed, a mix of Angus, Hereford, Senepol, and Barzona, excels in grass-finishing and is well-suited to our farm's climate. Our farm now has over 30 head of cattle living in harmony with the land. Here, cattle live their entire lives in lush fields with their herd, treated humanely and with minimal stress, resulting in healthier, tastier beef. We currently sell grass-fed, grass-finished, all-natural beef as a half steer, rather than packaged meat. Grass-finished beef is leaner, higher in Omega-3 fatty acids, and more nutritious than grain-finished beef. FARM HISTORY

Five Creeks Farm has a rich history, deeply connected to the local community. The previous owner used it as a hunting retreat and was a traditional cattleman. The farm also features stone walls built by a former owner who labored tirelessly despite suffering from black lung disease. The land even has a history of Native American use, with arrowheads occasionally found in the fields. Our memories include living in a glamping tent while our house was being built, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of the farm. Now that our house is built, we offer farm stays at our glamping tent and chalet on the property. Our hope is that our guests will get to share in the magic of this special place we call home.

My sweet Jack needs a home without chickens. He is a 3 year old Shepard poodle ( plus 7other breeds) mix. He is one of the happiest dogs I’ve had. Super smart. He just likes to play with our chickens too much and ends up killing them. He’s fine with our cat — just not with the chickens that are free roaming. He needs a loving home on a farm or with a big yard. Please contact me if you would like to adopt him. He was a stray that found our farm 2 years ago.
