It was weaning day for these 2 bull calves of Richard and Harriet. We ran them through the Arrowquip to get them vaccinated and wormed, and then up the hill they went to join the other weaned calves.

We went out to check on the newest heifers, and give the weaned calves and the last heifer up top, Hayden, some feed before the big storm blew in. We almost made it, but Kenny got a little wet putting their feed out. Good thing we've got a cabbed UTV to wait out the storm. That lightning was intense for awhile.

Piper, Mittens, Betsy, and Janice got their new jewelry and were brought up to the top field to join Seamus and the big girls. We used the new Arrowquip with the headcatcher and it was a breeze!

Meet Janice, Betsy, Piper, and Mittens, our newest heifers, named thanks to the 4 Anzalone kids! Kenny and I went over so he could see the heifers in person, up close, instead of from the other side of a fence, and also brought them some feed. They knew exaxtly what that bag was and didnt hesitate when Kennh poured it out. We're hoping to get their official Bledsoe Farm tags in tomorrow, and have them moved up with the big girls and Seamus. 🤞 it doesnt rain tomorrow afternoon.

Its taken me several days to be able to write this out, but on Wednesday, our calf known as Snooter, passed away in his sleep. For the last couple months we've known that he not growing like the others, even having the vet check him twice to see if we could help him in any way. It looked like he had a severe underbite and from our knowledge, never grazed with the herd. He did hang out with them occasionally, but he was often found chilling by himself. We knew he wouldn't be ready to take to the market with the calves his age, and had already talked about banding him and just keeping him. His last couple days he had slowed down some and looked swollen in the jaw area opposite his underbite, which we did treat, but I guess it was too much for his little body. I know you aren't supposed to get attached because it is a business, but sometimes it cant be helped and we will miss seeing Snoots when we go, but he will forever be part of our farm now.
