We vaccinate our newly weaned calves with a one shot vaccine, tag them with a blue or red tag, and band them if needed. We like to give them at least 30 days off their mother so its not as stressful for them to be taken to the market.

It was weaning day for our 7 oldest calves, but 13 of them were tagged, banded if needed, and vaccinated. Then with the help of Rimer Farms we moved them to the top field with the Rockies and young heifers.

Hopefully this group will be set for awhile, and our next job will to work the older calves and get them moved to the upper field and weaned from their mom's.

It was cattle moving day at the farm today; the big girls, calves, and Seamus all came easily when called. The grass is definitely plentiful back there, so they should be happy for awhile!

Sexing calves is usually a pretty straight forward process, but sometimes the parts arent as easily seen as you would like. So after a better inspection 🤌, this heifer calf is actually a bull calf. So its time to introduce Randall. We'll just say his not as endowed as his brother at Rimer Farms!

Not to be outdone by the babies, Seamus decided it was his turn to get some scratches. He is such a sweet and laid back bull.

Since its getting closer to hay cutting time and we will be purchasing hay from Rimer Farms , instead of doing our own, we had to rearrange the hay we had left over from last year. Kenny manned the tractor and I had the bale climbing duties, keeping an eye on placement.

We finally were able to get the weaned heifers back to their place in the back alongside the rockys. A little bit of feed goes a long way!
