I saw a comment today saying that ‘self blue is dead’. Well this hot and overdone pullet and I disagree. It may be hard to tell in this 100 degree heat, but this girl is stout and her feathers are 🤌

I’ve been slowly downsizing some of my other varieties so that I can increase my numbers in black and self blue because after ‘catching them all’, I’ve finally found my favorites. 🖤 💜

That’s a big spot. 😍

What’s your routine for grooming birds?
How often are you trimming nails and beaks? Do they only get baths if they’re going to a show? Do you leave your best girls in a breeding pen all year?

Sincerely,
Overheated and overwhelmed silkie breeder 💜

I don't often say this, but it needs saying: there are real people on the other side of every screen.

Lately I've watched grown women in this hobby turn into a pack the second someone says something they don't like. Pile-ons. Snide comments. Public shaming dressed up as "just being honest." It's ugly, and it's beneath the community we claim to be building.

We are breeders, keepers, and lovers of these birds because we care about something living and fragile. That care should extend to each other too. Disagreement is fine. Cruelty is not.

You can have standards without losing your kindness. You can call something out without tearing a person down. Mob mentality isn't strength, it's just cowardice with company.

So here's your reminder: be the kind of person you'd want showing up in your comment section on your worst day

Speaking of paint silkies…

I've posted before that I was considering letting go of my Paint pen and then absolutely chickened out. But I really do want to downsize just a smidge on the colors I'm breeding and focus more on my black and self-blue program.

So… my Paint breeding group is 💯 available.
🖤 1 rooster, 4 hens. 🤍
✨ Rooster is just over a year old
✨ Hens are 1-2 years old

📸 Photos are from early spring, they're currently in breeding pen condition. Before they go anywhere, I'll be pulling them, grooming, deworming, treating for external parasites, and separating boy from girls for 30ish days to make sure everyone's in tip-top shape.

📝 Worth noting for transparency: about 30% of the cockerels this group has thrown show some khaki leakage on the hackles. Wanted to put that out there upfront, still gorgeous birds, just being honest about what you'll see genetically.

These are FOR ⛵️, not ON ⛵️. Their 🏷️ reflects my investment, the time I've put into this program, and the quality of these birds. I will not be separating them. I'll work with the right person on a payment plan with a small non-refundable deposit.

Local pickup preferred in Roland, AR. I will NOT be shipping unless you want to wait until October. If you elect to have them shipped to you, those costs are fully on you. They will 🚢 in at least 3 boxes.

I'd really love for these to go to someone who has a genuine passion for paint. They're lovely birds and I'd hate to see that color program go to waste just because it's not my current focus. Please note: this isn't first come, first served. I'll be selecting a buyer based on their current program and goals for the birds. I'd honestly rather keep them than see them go somewhere that isn't the right fit.

Six weeks. Full tilt.

Three horse shows (each one a 3-day event, which means 4 days of me, including pack-in), spring break, a company retreat, a work conference, and the everyday marathon of raising four kids and running a farm, all while holding down a full-time job.

I've been running on Red Bull (Juneberry to be specific) and lattes. Fully aware it's not sustainable, doing it anyway, because this is the season we're in.

I know it's been quiet here. I'm not gone. I'm just living right now. I love this life, even when it's running me ragged.

🌞 Summer slowdown, I see you.

Also, now feels like the right time to give a HUGE shoutout to Jonivan BuffaloJones!
The farm would absolutely NOT be operating without your support. Always there, whatever is needed. A lifeline to a little bit of normalcy in this crazy life that Todd Eubanks and I built for our family. Thank you for keeping it real and holding it all down when we’re busy and gone.
