This morning I was doing my best to fence off these culverts to keep the cows across the road and the heifers in our pasture separate. I needed another post and sure as heck didn’t bring an extra with me on my hike down the ditch. On my walk back up to the house I was chopping ice in the ditch to give the heifers access to water. My ax went through the ice and into the mud where it kicked up a post I had lost last summer while the ditch was full flow. Figured it was gone forever but it turns out it just went a couple hundred yards downstream to wait for me until I needed it again. It’s a small thing but it sure is nice when things work out and make life easier. No cussing needed…at least until I saw the cows across the road had broke down a gate and were spilling into the road. No worries though, I just happened to have some extra wire hanging on my fence 10 feet away from a fix last spring. It was a good morning!
