Aksel’s Tavern is something I’m working toward building here in the community, not just as a business, but as a place for people to gather.

The goal is simple: a welcoming physical space for tabletop gaming, card games, RPGs, nerd culture, good food, drinks, events, and community. A place where people can actually hang out, meet others with similar interests, and feel like they belong.

Right now, we’re starting by building the community first through Discord while working toward the long-term goal of creating a real physical space.

So I want your input on BOTH:

🏰 What would you want to see in a physical Aksel’s Tavern?
• TTRPG nights?
• Magic/Pokémon/Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments?
• Board game nights?
• Mini painting stations?
• Tavern-style food and drinks?
• Trivia nights, cosplay, themed events?
• Family-friendly days?

💬 What would you want to see in the Discord community?
• Looking-for-group channels?
• Campaign planning?
• Hobby and mini-painting spaces?

• Community events?

• Spaces for creators, artists, and storytellers?

Most importantly: what would make you actually want to be part of something like this and stick around?

Why I’m Building Aksel’s Tavern
I want to be transparent about what Aksel’s Tavern is, why I’m building it, and what I hope it becomes.
At its heart, Aksel’s Tavern is about community.
Like a lot of people, I’ve noticed something missing. We’re more connected online than ever, but somehow more isolated too. Finding genuine community, especially as adults, feels harder than it should. Places where people can just exist, have fun, and belong without pressure are disappearing.
That’s where this idea comes from.
I’ve always loved tabletop RPGs, card games, board games, nerd culture, good food, storytelling, and the feeling of gathering around a table with people you trust. There’s something timeless about it. A table, food, laughter, chaos, inside jokes, epic failures, legendary victories. Community.
The long-term goal of Aksel’s Tavern is to create a physical community space in the greater Sacramento / Placer County area where people can gather around tabletop games, creativity, friendship, and shared interests. A place that feels welcoming whether you’re a veteran player, completely new, socially awkward, neurodivergent, military, a parent needing connection, or just someone looking for “their people.”
Not just another business.
A place with warmth. Food. Events. TTRPG campaigns. Card games. Miniatures. Community nights. Creative projects. Maybe classes, workshops, themed events, veteran support nights, and ways to give back locally.
But I also want to be realistic.
Big ideas don’t happen overnight, and I’m not pretending I can snap my fingers and suddenly open a tavern. Right now, this is about building the community first. Getting good people together. Creating friendships. Seeing what people actually want. Learning. Growing. Making mistakes and improving.
I’m not here to poach people from other groups or compete with existing communities. Quite the opposite. I want to help strengthen the local tabletop and nerd community by creating more opportunities for people to connect.
That means starting small:
Building friendships
Hosting games
Creating spaces online
Supporting local creators and groups
Listening to feedback
Figuring out what works
If this eventually grows into the physical tavern I imagine, incredible. If it grows into a strong, supportive community first, that’s already a win.
At the end of the day, I think people deserve a place where they can pull up a chair, be themselves, and feel like they belong.
That’s the dream behind Aksel’s Tavern.
And honestly, the world could use more taverns and fewer reasons to stay isolated staring at glowing rectangles. Tiny rectangles, ruling our lives like smug little liches.
