Happy friends. 🤠🄃

I’ve added some pretty interesting bottles to the shelf lately… and I’m slowly working my way through them for future reviews. You know… for ā€œresearch purposes.ā€ Very serious business over here.

But I want to know, what interesting bottles have y’all picked up recently? Anything I should keep an eye out for?

If you’ve been meaning to visit a Texas distillery, this weekend is looking obnoxiously helpful.

This week’s Texas Whiskey News has bottle releases, a 90’s party, a Single Cask Nation dinner, barbecue and bourbon, a distillery anniversary, a bicycle race, and a hootenanny.

You know, casual weekend stuff.

As always, event details can change, sell out, move, mutate, or otherwise become weirdly complicated, so check with the distillery before you emotionally commit to barbecue.

More Texas whiskey events are listed at TexasWhiskeyGeek.com.

Now go hydrate. Aggressively.

is back at it again with their 2026 Cognac Cask Finished Rye… and honestly I get why this release keeps developing a cult following.

Fresh mint, warm vanilla, rye spice, oak, a little citrus… and somehow my brain kept yelling, "I swear there's a Swedish fish note in here".Ā

Did the Swedish Fish note make it to the palate?
No.
Will I get over it?Ā
Time will tell.Ā

This one drinks super easy for a rye and the Cognac finish smooths things out without turning it into some overly sweet dessert whiskey. It still very much tastes like rye… just a rye that maybe got dressed up a little for dinner.

Only 225 bottles of this release exist and it’s tasting room only out in Ledbetter, Texas.

I put the full review up on the website with all the nerdy details, tasting notes, and my thoughts on whether this thing is actually worth chasing down.

Link in bio.

Also shoutout to my buddy Chris over .reviews for sharing this bottle with me. The man writes whiskey articles better than I write grocery lists.

Mother’s Day weekend is stacked with Texas whiskey events, which feels appropriate. Moms deserve flowers, brunch, and possibly a barrel proof emotional support pour.

Full event details are on TexasWhiskeyGeek.com.

As always, confirm details with the host before heading out, because calendars are helpful, but chaos remains undefeated.

Cheers, y’all.

Picked up the first release in the Expedition Series from and this one doesn’t exactly tiptoe in.

First sniff comes in hot. No mystery there. Give it a second and it settles into caramel, vanilla, toasted spice… even got a little marshmallow hanging around.

On the palate it starts sweet, then the rye spice shows up and sticks around. Finish has some weight to it too. And yeah… it gently reminds you this is high proof. Very polite. Very firm.

Couple drops of water helped a lot for me. Everything opened up, caramel got richer, spice felt a little more put together instead of just yelling at me.

I’m glad I grabbed a bottle. Not in a hurry to hoard backups, but I am curious where they take this series next.

Full review is up on the site if you want all the nerdy details. Link’s in the usual spot.

Derby hats, Cinco weekend, rare bottles, live music, and brand new Texas whiskey releases… yeah, this week got busy real quick.

This week on Texas Whiskey News:
🄃 has Friday Night Flights and an after-dark tasting experience
🄃 Derby watch parties are happening at:

and

🄃 Balcones is opening the vault for a rare bottle sale
🄃 has the Whiskey Valor Single Barrel release and fundraiser
🄃 is hosting an Andalusia masterclass and dinner
🄃 Plus live music, Cinco weekend events, cocktail classes, and more across Texas

Basically, if you can’t find something whiskey-related to do this week, you may be hiding in a barrel. Which, honestly, kinda sounds peaceful.

As always, check with the distillery before making the drive. Events, times, tickets, and availability can change.

Follow me for more Texas whiskey events, releases, and news.

132.4 proof and somehow still dangerously drinkable.

I just reviewed the Spring 2026 Whiskey Club release from Andalusia Whiskey Co. and this one hit me right in my single malt-loving soul. Sweet marzipan, vanilla, oak, orange marmalade, a whisper of smoke, and a finish that hangs around like it pays rent.

Best part? This bottle landed around $50 through the club. That’s the kind of math I support.

If this was a regular shelf bottle, I’d probably keep replacing it before the dust had a chance to settle. Unfortunately, it’s limited… so now I’m forced to ā€œsip responsiblyā€ and ā€œmake it last.ā€ Tragic.

Full review is live now on the website. Link in bio.

I thought I knew what I was getting into here… I did not.

Thanks to .reviews I got my hands on the 5th Anniversary Cigar Blend. I was expecting that dark, brooding, ā€œI sit in a leather chair and judge peopleā€ kind of whiskey…

Instead I got hit with spearmint, pine, and rosemary like I just walked into a forest that also serves cocktails.

Then the palate goes, ā€œoh you like surprises?ā€
Starts off sweet like vanilla icing, then pivots hard into those fresh herbal notes and finishes dry with a spice that hangs around like it forgot its keys.

Somewhere in there I even caught a little blueberry and sarsaparilla just casually doing their thing.

Not my usual cigar blend lane—I normally go for darker and richer—but honestly… this one works. Especially if you’re into rye.

I’d pair it with something lighter like a Macanudo CafĆ© or an Arturo Fuente Short Story so the whiskey doesn’t get steamrolled.

POV: you waited till the last minute… and somehow still pulled it off.

The Texas Whiskey Festival is going down April 18th.

All Texas whiskey. No filler. Just the good stuff and the people who make it.

Come for the whiskey… leave with a few new friends (and probably a new favorite bottle).

Tickets in bio. Don’t overthink it. 🄃
