After this weekend’s sad end (predator got 95% of our chickens….) God has a way of blessing us with a positive on the farm too.

Turns out the doe I thought had miscarried babies was in fact still pregnant! So 2 boys found in the pasture yesterday!

This mama is very experienced. She had then unassisted, dried off, and already fed by the time I even realized they were out there.

This 1 boy in particular has some beautiful moon spots!

We’ve noticed that every morning, one of our hen ducks has been “missing” and turns up by afternoon. Well today I happened to find her! On a good sized nest of chicken and duck eggs.

Got new babies! 4 ducks, 4 turkeys, and 21 chicks!

2 new sets of twins on the farm! First time mamas with great instincts. This is what we love about Katahdin hair sheep!

Our ewe Oreo (the darker one) had twin boys on the 24th and on the 28th, Brownie (the lighter one) had twin girls!

Pop quiz! Who can guess the duck egg from the chicken egg?

On the right is a duck egg! The left is chicken.

As you can see, there is virtually no difference between the looks of a duck and chicken egg!

Taste is the same too! You’d assume that duck could taste “dirty” but that’s far from the truth!

Taste comes from the feed and our ducks are fed the same as our chickens! They also get the same freedom to free range, so both of these types of eggs will only get richer and richer orange yolks as the bugs and grass come!

Got a new baby today! Introducing Pickles!

She’s about 3 weeks old. She’s a katahdin/dorper ewe lamb! Hoping to see what this cross looks like and if I enjoy it I’ll add more to the herd! She’s pretty adorable!

On this past Monday, Fatty (yes that is her name. She lives up to it.) had a single boy! So now up to 3 total lambs on the farm!
