We just got done harvesting a few more apiaries and will have beautiful chunk honey available this weekend until sold out! 🍯✨

Chunk honey is a true delicacy - a piece of fresh, raw honeycomb suspended in a jar of runny honey. It’s unfiltered, unprocessed, and straight from the hive, just the way the bees made it. The comb is 100% edible, with a delicate wax texture and an extra burst of natural flavor in every bite. Perfect for charcuterie boards, tea, toast, or just eating by the spoonful.

Come visit us at the Sunrise Mall Farmers Market from 8am-1pm, or place an order online at www.restingbeefaceco.com for porch pickup in Rancho Cordova. Supplies are limited - once it’s gone, it’s gone (until next season)!

As always, your support helps sustain healthy honeybee populations, our small specialty farm, and the family behind it all. 🐝❤️

✨Sound on✨ Why Swarms of Bees Love the Smell of Old Comb:If you’ve ever tried to attract a swarm of bees, you may have heard the tip: use old comb. But why does it work so well?Old beeswax comb—especially darkened comb that’s been used for brood rearing—gives off a complex mix of smells: propolis, wax, traces of honey, and pheromones left behind by previous generations. To a scout bee searching for a new home, these scents signal safety, experience, and readiness. It’s like walking into a house and smelling freshly baked bread—it just feels right. When a colony splits and sends out a swarm, the scout bees are on a mission to find the perfect new home. They favor cavities that are dry, dark, and protected—but if that space smells like a place where bees have lived before, it shoots to the top of their list. That’s why beekeepers will often reuse old brood comb in swarm traps or bait hives. Add a few drops of lemongrass oil to mimic the queen’s scent, and you’ve basically put up a “For Rent” sign in bee language. So next time you’re setting out a swarm trap, don’t toss that gnarly old comb—it’s bee gold. 🐝💛

🍯 Honeycomb in the making!
Did you know that young worker bees (around 12–20 days old) produce wax flakes from eight abdominal glands during a strong nectar flow? They chew these flakes, softening the wax to build the comb structure. Interestingly, bees typically focus on either producing wax or storing honey, but the comb itself must be drawn out fully before it can be filled with honey.

Why is honeycomb (and beeswax) so expensive?

🐝 To make just 1 lb of wax, bees need to consume 6–8 lb of honey!

🐝 Enormous flower visits: That represents millions of flower visits—often cited around 12–16 million—for every pound of wax produced.

🐝 Labor and time: Bees invest significant energy and time. They only produce wax during heavy nectar flows, and building comb is a major colony effort.

🐝 Many beekeepers reuse comb or harvest only liquid honey, so it takes less energy for the bees to store honey next year.

What started out as three eggs and a small amount of feathers, quickly escalated into full blow hoarding! …..sorry folks she’s stolen all the duck eggs for the near future. 🤣 but we still have plenty of chicken and quail eggs for sale.

Everyone meet ‘Cloudy’…… she has stashed away 16 eggs and is currently sitting on them. She wants to be a momma so bad that I hope she is successful! We don’t like using plastic if we can avoid it but if it gets reused then it’s a win in our book! Sooooo we gave her a little snack buffet using old yogurt containers since she’s doing hard work keeping those eggs toasty warm!

Happy Mothers Day to all those special moms out there!

✨Farm Fresh Eggs Available✨

🐓Chicken
🦆Duck
🐤Quail

Did you know that most of the eggs you buy at the supermarket are well over a month old? It truly makes you rethink how fresh they are! However, when an egg is older it is considerably easier to hard boil.

Quail eggs offer a more concentrated nutrient profile due to their smaller size. They are also slightly higher in cholesterol and fat but also provide more vitamins and minerals like vitamin B12, riboflavin, and selenium. Quail eggs also have a richer, creamier flavor due to a higher yolk-to-white ratio. Roughly, 3-5 quail eggs are equivalent to one chicken egg in terms of volume.

WHERE TO PURCHASE
Our farm fresh eggs are available for purchase as porch pickup in Rancho Cordova anytime or you can find us at the Sunrise Mall Farmers market from June-October.
