At Delectables we create all natural baked goods and confections that taste great and that are good for the body. Popins, the first confections, were created for my daughter, Haley. To this day, Haley can not eat anything processed without getting very ill and, due to her hypoglycemia, she also needs to eat every 3 hours to prevent seizures and episodes. This made school and after school activities very difficult. From the third grade Haley was involved in several very physical after school activities like marching band, dance, orchestra, and gymnastics, which continue to this day. There were no easy, portable, healthy, good tasting snacks let alone sweets. When the kids took breaks with the supplied snack, things like Rice Krispies Treats or granola bars, her only option was to bring things from home, like carrots or raisins.
I began to scour the internet for pre-made, all natural snacks to buy even if I had to order them special and came back with nothing, until one day I stumbled across a recipe that featured dried fruits and nuts instead of the usual sugar and grains. Haley and I began to tweak this concept until we created something using dates, walnuts, cocoa powder and vanilla extract. Within weeks I created 10 different flavors for her and we decided to call them Popins. We called them Popins because you pop them in your mouth. No fuss, no muss, and best of all, no bad reactions.
Popins were never meant to be a business, these were something I created for my daughter and I shared them with family and friends.
When Haley entered high school one of the band moms, and soon to be my best friend, Dorothy, convinced me Popins were something people would enjoy and that people would appreciate having a healthy option.
