What was our favorite part of visiting the kiddos at The Learning Tree Pre-School -FUMC Gainesville yesterday? Successfully keeping the kiddos from releasing the bees, obviously.

But also, what FUN!! We love the chaos, the awe, and the laughter. We are so thankful that they invited us to visit with the kiddos and talk about what we do when we keep bees. We were as excited as they were!

🍗 What's the big deal with dark meat?

Chicken thighs, drumsticks, and wings contain more fat and connective tissue than breast meat. That gives them their richer flavor and helps them stay moist during cooking.

And that's exactly why dark meat is so good for things like grilling, roasting, smoking, frying, and (of course) loading up with sauce.

We're not saying there's anything wrong with chicken breast. We're just saying… well... just look at that. 🤩😂

This is what 12 dozen eggshells looks like 🥚

When we have an excess of eggs (like earlier in the summer when it wasn’t so hot), we’ll scramble them and feed them to the pigs or chickens.

The shells get rinsed and crushed, then set out in the good ol hot Texas sun to dry.

We add these crushed eggshells to the chickens’ grit. It gives them extra calcium to help keep their shells strong.

Nothing wasted around here 🧡🤎
