Hey everyone! So we had a big day of processing birds last week on a 90 degree day but we had a great team and ended up working out really well! We were so busy I didn’t take any pictures but honestly, you probably wouldn’t want to see the process anyway lol.. I did manage to get one photo of one of the chickens after though! All in all; with our 10 meat chickens, we harvested 62 pounds of chicken! Our largest bird weighed 8.2 lbs and our smallest bird was 6.72 lbs. the others varied in between. I think we’ll try again on a larger scale! This was our test batch and will be in our own freezer, but next time may be able to sell them locally!

An easy, cheap treat for chickens is lentil sprouts! These provide additional vitamins, minerals and protein which is benefiticial to their egg production. Plus the girls love them! Chickens can’t eat raw unsprouted lentils, but it’s easy to do in a mason jar on your kitchen counter. This batch here took 4 days

When you let your chickens roam freely during the day, they find some interesting places to leave their eggs… like this bag of peat moss for example 😂

Embarking on a chicken journey for fresh eggs, we dove in with a handful of randomly selected chicks from tractor supply. Despite our initial lack of knowledge, we persisted and learned many lessons along the way! We now select breeds based on distinct feather patterns, egg color, egg production, and personality. My egg basket now boasts a beautiful rainbow of colors, and I continue to introduce diverse breeds to my flock
