Castle Coop of Cluck Lomond

Castle Coop of Cluck Lomond A tiny Scottish-themed sanctuary for wayward roosters, rescued hens, & T-Rex chaos.

We’re building a feathered “village” inspired by castles, clan lore, & big-hearted second chances—because sanctuary isn’t confinement, it's belonging

Big plans are officially underway at Castle Coop of Cluck Lomond! 🐓🏰

We staked out the new enclosure at the farm, and the plan is a 25×25 predator-proof chicken kingdom — around 625 sq ft of screened-in, Fort Knox-style freedom.

Think giant bird cage… but for chickens with royal attitudes. 👑🐔

This build will have:

• Heavy-duty hardware cloth around the bottom
• Predator-proofing around the full base
• Aviary bird netting pulled tight across the top to help keep hawks and owls out
• A shaded hard-roof section in the center
• Multiple coops inside
• One side for the hens
• One side for the roosters
• A double 8-foot gate so coops, barrels, supplies, and future upgrades can be moved in and out

This time we’re moving away from metal frames and going with a stronger wood build using 2x4s, 4x4s, and 6x6 support posts where needed.

The red coop will become the hen laying house, and the rooster side will have its own shelter too.

Bruce, Wallace, Arty, Umfridus, Arabella, Isobel, Boudicca, Morag, and the rest of the feathered crew are about to get a serious upgrade.

DIY. Budget-friendly. Predator-proof. Chicken-approved.

Castle Coop expansion has officially begun. 🐔✨

This is my project! Suggestions are welcome. I have a tarp and chicken coop wire roof with a tarp over a 10x10x6 dog run.

Just temporarily. My husband and I are building a roof. My chickens are an almost a hour from my house. I have the tarp and chicken wire roof staked up so water doesn’t pool.

We’re in southern Georgia. And we have been having a drought not alot of rain and fires.

We’re getting rain this week a lot of it.

So this is the design I have come up with. I put in my plans and measurements and supplies into chat gpt just so I can give you an idea of what I’m designing for the roof.

We want to build it with 2x4x12 so it has a foot hang all around. We already have these amazing 63 gallon barrels for the rain containment system.

Problem is neither of us are very handy with roofs.

I need a hard top roof but cheap and diy friendly.

Any better 💡 ideas?

Meet Ingram, the feral rooster who looked at Castle Coop and said, “Aye, this will do.” 😂🐓

Ingram adopted us on his own terms — because clearly, feral roosters do not ask permission. They simply arrive, inspect the snacks, judge the accommodations, and decide whether you are worthy.

He is also a survivor of the Great Owl Attack of 2025, the night we lost his brother Gilbert. Ingram made it through, battle-tested and still strutting like he owns half the kingdom.

He comes and goes as he pleases, visits the court, eats like honored nobility, socializes with Bruce and Wallace, and then disappears back into the wild like the mysterious little outlaw he is.

So please welcome Ingram of Castle Coop — survivor, wanderer, snack inspector, and feral gentleman of Cluck Lomond. 🖤🐓👑.
