This is what it takes to grow organically. We could have used an herbicide before sowing our carrots. We could spray something now to knock out these grass seedlings. That would definitely be the easier route.

Instead, we’re out here hand-pulling weeds. Growing this way takes more time and effort, but it’s a choice we’ve made because we care about how our food is grown and what ends up on your plate, and ours.

At the end of a long day it feels good knowing exactly what went into this crop—hard work, healthy soil, and a lot of hand labor.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all at the farmers market soon. Carrots, garlic, beets, kale, radishes, green beans, broccoli, and more coming your way in a few weeks time!

Farm update 👨🏾‍🌾🧑🏻‍🌾: field one is fully seeded and planted 🥬🥕🌽. Two beehives made it through winter and the queens are back to laying 🐝. We have five broody turkey hens sitting on about 30 eggs. There is going to be some fluffy turkey poults walking around soon 🐣and the fruit trees have kept their flowers through the small cold snap🌸!

One of the last “charcuterie” boards for some of the turkeys in our flock.
At around 24–30 weeks old, a few of our heritage turkeys will soon be harvested. With too many toms in the group, it’s time to restore balance to the flock — and, of course, feed isn’t inexpensive either.
It’s always a bittersweet time, but we take comfort in knowing these birds have lived a genuinely good life: raised on open pasture, fed organic produce from our farm in addition to their natural forage and supplemental feed, and never given antibiotics, hormones, or growth stimulants. Every day they’ve enjoyed fresh air, sunshine, and plenty of space to roam.
We’ll have a limited number of pasture-raised heritage turkeys available soon — just in time for Thanksgiving. If you’d like to share one of these special birds with your friends and family, please send us a message for details.
