The cat's out of the bag.

Whole Food Collective is relocating, and as always, when we do something, we take it very seriously. We are not just moving; we will be crossing an ocean of new possibilities, so to speak.

And because we cannot leave anyone behind, we are raising funds to bring our 2 fur babies along by creating these incredibly tasty, wholesome sourdough pancakes, filled with gooey, creamy, rich chocolate spread - this weekend - just for you.

Only R20 each, and all proceeds go towards bringing our whole family with us.

Stop and smell the...

Well, the bouquet of Olive and Peppadew sourdough breadsticks, of course.

Prepared for a very special lady, these Mediterranean-Style artisan breadsticks, tastefully blend the earthy, salty, rich, meaty flavours of kalamata olives, with sweet, tangy and mildly spicy peppadews, twisted into layers of stoneground flour, olive oil, and butter.

“I am not tired, I am in love with my craft."

There is a kind of strange, deep, happy satisfaction that occurs when you stay up all night creating beautiful sourdough breads and other wonderful artisan products - and what a perfectly golden, sun-kissed early morning it was, when Rosie and I ventured out into the icy cold, to take pics of our warm, fragrant bakes.

Many hands make...

Well, in this case, the tastiest sweet, tangy and spicy Orange Fire Marmalade, crafted by these talented little “maîtres confituriers”, from freshly-harvested, sun-ripened calamondin oranges gifted by the lovely Marna Botes.

A perfect treat for freshly baked sourdough bread, to warm up a cold winter's day.

"Pick your friends like you pick your fruit", says an old African proverb.

Well then, we are so very lucky to be able to call this wonderful lady a friend!

Not only did she bless us with a bowl full of delicious, sweetly-sour calamondin oranges, she also happens to be one of the nicest and most remarkable ladies that I know, a regular customer, an incredible public speaker and a lovely person.

I can already smell the 'Orange Fire Marmalade' cooking in our kitchen.

Let them eat...

Well, it certainly was not cake that Rosie requested for her 13th birthday today.

Departing from the sweetly traditional icing-cloaked dessert, in the wee hours of the morning, I layered handfuls of cinnamon and brown sugar wrapped into decadent blankets of buttery sourdough cinnamon rolls, smothered in a warmed, rich, velvety cream cheese frosting.

An early morning birthday feast, insisting to be shared with friends and neighbours in celebration of this incredible, special girl's birthday!

Happy birthday, my beautiful girl!

I am going to have to close my business.

Well, this is what I was afraid of, a few weeks ago, after the fuel prices shot through the roof, and my normal supplier of Eureka Flour more than doubled their minimum order quantity.

That was until I discovered Gideon Mills, and not only was I able to find affordable, high-quality stoneground flour at a price a small business could afford, but I am so very chuffed at their wholewheat flour - rich, robust and full of flavour - one of the most beautiful wholewheat starter cultures I have had the pleasure to cultivate!

A melody of flavours, Peppadew and Olive sourdough breadsticks twirl together to create a warm, savoury, salty bread experience, with a blend of sweet-and-tangy notes in a crusty, chewy blanket of twisted, baked bread.

A hugely satisfying product to create and enjoy! So looking forward to adding these to our ever-evolving collection of artisan foods.

These will work in any culinary setting, from cheese and w**e picnics under leafy oak trees, to biltong and b**r braais – a perfect mini meal or snack.

And no – clearly I don’t use any ai in my descriptions, because just as important real, wholesome ingredients and handmade traditions are to developing my products, even if they are not all perfect every time, thus is my approach to writing – authentic and always learning, over perfection.

Unlike these breadsticks, which are almost perfect.
