Managed to inspect today before the rain.
- FS1 has good queen and lots honey. Needs a new deep for brood.
- CK-barn has empty super, on 80% full super, on deep with lots of honey & pollen and a ripe supercedure cell. No queen seen. Wait one week to check for new queen status.
- BBC-Back hive has ripe swarm cell in bottom mostly empty super, the deep above has lots of resources and spotty brood, the deep above that has 80% capped and 20% uncapped. 2 empty supers on top. Wait one week to check for new queen status.
- BBC- Front hive has 2 empty supers on top of 3 boxes seemingly full of bees and brood. It started to rain, so I did not complete the inspection. Check next week.

Did manage to harvest one deep frame of honey and remove a broken frame for repair.

5th swarm of the season. A nice, easy one at head height on a country road near Traders Point. Finally got to use my The Hive Butler, which worked great for holding the bees for transportation.

Hive inspection day on 4/25 at Falcon Apiary.
1) I transferred a swarm from a nuc box to a 10-frame box as they were getting crowded.
2) Then I inspected 2 hives. One had swarmed but looked good. One was doing great, no signs of swarming.
3) Then I got a swarm call, but since I was busy , I passed it along to a friend.
4) When I turned around there was a swarm not 20 feet from me at head height. It was an easy one and I had it in a nuc in 10 minutes, no drama at all. I smoked them in and attached a top feeder with syrup … big mistake … the syrup shook out into the box and the car on the drive to the Jungle apiary. Let’s hope they survived the dousing!!

A swarm trap was installed today, and a swarm was captured from a tree into a 10-frame box. Fun times.

Must remember to take pics next time. 🀣

First swarm call of the season, so I decided to put a swarm trap below it in the tree, hoping the bees would find it and move in. Three days later, they had survived a rain storm and wind and still not moved in. So I decided to grab them directly using a bucket on a stick. I got the first bucket full and put it directly in a nuc box directly below, with a frame of old comb inside. Bees came out and started fanning, a good sign, maybe I got the queen? Then bucket by bucket I dumped bees in front of the hive and very slowly they all went in. Some smoke at the end got them to go inside and I was then able to move the swarm to the Jungle apiary. Maybe only 20-30 stragglers were left at the original site. Success.
