I've been meaning to post this for a month or two now, but there never seems to be a good time - but, yeah... this is the final year for Mike's Beer Cheese.
I made my first batch 15 years ago and it debuted at the Stone 5th Anniversary Open House Celebration on September 22nd, 2001. It was an instant hit, and became a staple at Stone's anniversaries.
For the past 15 years my friends and I have made over 2 TONS of Mike's Beer Cheese for each Stone anniversary celebration. What's crazier was my friends volunteering to help spread over 300lbs of beer cheese over 15,000 crackers in six hours every year. Through all of this, we made all this cheese for charity with no compensation.
In recent years, the week leading up to the anniversary has been a feat of endurance as I juggle many of the behind the scenes details for Stone's event on top of doing Mike's Beer Cheese. All-nighters are common place and it's a given that I don't get to see my beloved daughters and wife at all during this period. Last night I arrived home after midnight to a sleeping house, and left shortly after 5am to a sleeping house - and this is a large part of what has led to me hanging up the apron for good.
Despite this major effort and strain, the day of the anniversary is something that is beyond fun. I get stuck behind a desk all year and I love getting to talk to all of you, do "the pose", get knucks, hugs and more. I love all of you, and the past 15 years have been awesome. Thanks for all of your excitement that fueled me for so long.
Since you first tried Mike's Beer Cheese in 2001, I've gotten married and have been blessed with two awesome daughters. At this point in my life, my priorities and passion lies with being the best dad and husband I can be (proof is on my instagram account).
So any-who, sorry if I bummed you out. I can tell you that my friends and I whipped up an amazing last batch of beer cheese last night to be served on Friday and Saturday for the Stone 20th Anniversary Celebration. Friday night there will be Napalm Bastard, 20th Hoppy Mustard and 20th Curry Spice. Saturday there's good ole' Classic Garlic, Napalm Bastard, 20th Hoppy Mustard during session A and 20th Curry Spice during session B. All the Saturday beer cheeses will be served by volunteers at the Stone Station #1, aka "20 Taps For 20 Years." As with every year, this is my gift to all of you Stone fans. Please savor the last bite.
Both days I'll be wandering around as an attendee with a beer in hand, hope to run into you so we can raise a glass together.
Cheers,
-Mike
