STILL WANT MBCHZ? How interested would folks be to attend a charity beer and food festival if Mike's Beer Cheese made an appearance with at least four styles available?

It would highlight around a dozen local breweries and artisan food makers and be somewhere between $49-$59.

This is the first anniversary I've missed in 20 years (ever). Can't say I'm missing it in the least. Cheers to the remaining Team Stone crew, glad you're doing us proud and raising money for local charities. This event has more meaning and positive impact than anything else Stone does. Your labor is appreciated.

Hey folks, from the ashes rises a new hobby of mine. I'd love to have your support to follow and share my new venture with others, please go over and like this new page. Someday down the line I think Mike's Beer Cheese might make a reappearance at a Mike's Hop-Cade event.

The beer I brewed with Kris Ketcham is tapping this Friday at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Liberty Station at the main bar and in the store for grower fills. It is a send up of a Shirley Temple, a classic non-alcoholic mixed drink made with ginger ale and grenadine (pomegranate syrup). This beer style is a Belgian Triple with ginger and pomegranate weighing in at 8.3%.

In March you'll see it appear at Stone Company Stores around SoCal. There's only 34 kegs, so it will be gone pretty fast. If you get a chance to try it, please leave a review on untappd https://untappd.com/b/stone-brewing-stone-shirley-triple/1952172

So the genie seems to have left the bottle. I have been laid off, and that's ok. I am filled with optimism and was ready for a life change, and here it is dropped in my lap.

Please settle down any anger you have on my behalf. I seem to be helping my friends parse the steps of coping in lieu of myself. A change in the landscape of Stone's market and a steep line of endeavors have led to some painful and saddening cuts by those at the helm.

I have no animosity, and my 20 year tenure pushed me to learn more about myself, human nature, business and how to perfect what I call the "triple win." The rare convergence of cultivating ideas and initiatives that help the community, inspire fans and make a profit at the same time. That was GK's objective in the first place, and what drew me to Stone. For all that may hate, that is still part of the company I've been a part of for the past 20 years - good luck trying to convince me otherwise. It's those passions that have kept me aboard all these years.

I wouldn't trade anything for all the wonderful times, people and accomplishments I've been fortunate enough to experience. There's an internal term of Team Stone that we adopted over the years. As people have come aboard over the years I've referred to them instead as part of the "Stone Family." I'm honored to have such a large family and want nothing but the best for them.

It's been one crazy ride, and I can't wait to put my knowledge to "triple win" it for others.

This is a poster I created for Saturday that many of you didn't see. It was a bummer to not see Mitch this year since I met him at the 1st anniversary, and saw him at all anniversaries since. Every year he made a point to get by the Beer Cheese booth and get some Na**lm, which I served to him personally. The Auld Rauch that Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Liberty Station is brewing up in his honor will be released next month to support Freedom To Live. Please seek out the brew and raise a glass to a guy who wouldn't let anything get in his way to living life to the fullest.

I've been meaning to post this for a month or two now, but there never seems to be a good time - but, yeah... this is the final year for Mike's Beer Cheese.

I made my first batch 15 years ago and it debuted at the Stone 5th Anniversary Open House Celebration on September 22nd, 2001. It was an instant hit, and became a staple at Stone's anniversaries.

For the past 15 years my friends and I have made over 2 TONS of Mike's Beer Cheese for each Stone anniversary celebration. What's crazier was my friends volunteering to help spread over 300lbs of beer cheese over 15,000 crackers in six hours every year. Through all of this, we made all this cheese for charity with no compensation.

In recent years, the week leading up to the anniversary has been a feat of endurance as I juggle many of the behind the scenes details for Stone's event on top of doing Mike's Beer Cheese. All-nighters are common place and it's a given that I don't get to see my beloved daughters and wife at all during this period. Last night I arrived home after midnight to a sleeping house, and left shortly after 5am to a sleeping house - and this is a large part of what has led to me hanging up the apron for good.

Despite this major effort and strain, the day of the anniversary is something that is beyond fun. I get stuck behind a desk all year and I love getting to talk to all of you, do "the pose", get knucks, hugs and more. I love all of you, and the past 15 years have been awesome. Thanks for all of your excitement that fueled me for so long.

Since you first tried Mike's Beer Cheese in 2001, I've gotten married and have been blessed with two awesome daughters. At this point in my life, my priorities and passion lies with being the best dad and husband I can be (proof is on my instagram account).

So any-who, sorry if I bummed you out. I can tell you that my friends and I whipped up an amazing last batch of beer cheese last night to be served on Friday and Saturday for the Stone 20th Anniversary Celebration. Friday night there will be Na**lm Bastard, 20th Hoppy Mustard and 20th Curry Spice. Saturday there's good ole' Classic Garlic, Na**lm Bastard, 20th Hoppy Mustard during session A and 20th Curry Spice during session B. All the Saturday beer cheeses will be served by volunteers at the Stone Station #1, aka "20 Taps For 20 Years." As with every year, this is my gift to all of you Stone fans. Please savor the last bite.

Both days I'll be wandering around as an attendee with a beer in hand, hope to run into you so we can raise a glass together.

Cheers,
-Mike

OK, we're sold out for Saturday tickets at the Stone Brewing 20th Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival. If you're going, please note THERE IS NO MIKE'S BEER CHEESE BOOTH! "Wha? But you're serving cheese right?" Yes voice in my head. This year my precious beer cheese will be at four different Stone and Arrogant Brewing booths so you can try it with the beer it's made with. Meanwhile, I'll be walking about with friends and family with a beer in hand. Say "hi" if you run into me.

In the week leading up I'll post up a map marking off where the cheeses are located and what cheeses I've made.

Thanks for supporting the charities. Cheers!
