Year three on the Unified Grape Symposium Program Development Committee.

Unified Wine & Grape Symposium is North America’s largest wine and grape industry conference and trade show, bringing together grape growers, winemakers, marketers, and business operations professionals.

This is one of my favorite days of the year. A group of us gathers in Sacramento to discuss the state of the industry—what we’re experiencing today and, more importantly, where it’s headed.

There are a lot of heavy hitters in the room, and the conversations are always insightful. We spend the day brainstorming and shaping sessions for the January 2027 symposium before getting to work building out the seminar program.

If you’re in the industry, mark your calendar and come. The sessions, trade show, and networking are truly world-class.

A huge congratulations to Melissa Nelsen of Genevieve Cap Classique, whose Blanc de Blancs made the Top Sparkling Wines of 2026 list by

Hers was the only South African wine to make the list. 🤯🫣

Founded in 2008 by first-generation winemaker Melissa Nelsen, is dedicated exclusively to Cap Classique. In short order, she has established herself as one of the most important sparkling wine producers in South Africa.

Her Blanc de Blancs has been an absolute stunner here in the U.S., too, consistently impressing both trade and consumers alike.

I’ll say it bluntly, South Africa is producing some of the finest sparkling wines in the world. I’d confidently share bubbles like Genevieve against any others considered to be the world’s best.

If you’ve never had Cap Classique, think finesse and fine bubbles of Champagne, paired with the sunshine of South Africa.

They’re not running from what makes them unique (sun and OLD soil) - and that makes the wines so damn exciting.

This recognition is so well deserved.

Last night’s sold out Week collab dinner with of and was a dream.

The vibes were high all night, the menu was absolutely flawless with Chenin and Syrah from both continents, and every guest was such a damn treat to break bread with.

He’ll be pouring a lineup of single-variety Chenins and blends and talking about the origins of the new wave movement in South Africa.

This is a rare chance to taste some of South Africa’s smallest-production, most sought-after wines in a space that truly champions thoughtful, small-scale winemaking.
