So we thought it’s time to share a video of why we do what we do!

Every year, Master of Wine Tim Atkin MW publishes his South Africa Special Report: a thoughtful look at the vintage and the state of the industry, alongside scores for TONS of wines.

Now in its 14th edition, the 2026 report is the result of one palate tasting more than 1,800 South African wines from 350 producers over five weeks in the Cape. No entry fees. No pay-to-play. No panels. Any winery can be considered, and no one can buy their way in.

Alongside the scores is Tim’s Cape Classification, loosely modeled on Bordeaux 1855, but judged on quality alone: First through Fifth Growths, followed by the Crus Bourgeois. Then there’s the Podium, which recognizes the people behind the wines, from Winemaking Legend (SEE LAST SLIDE!!!) to Grower of the Year.

This report matters. It’s read by buyers, sommeliers and collectors around the world, and has played a meaningful role in changing how South African wine is valued internationally.

So seeing so many of the producers we represent earn serious recognition from Tim is pretty damn special.

Tembela Wines / Banele Baja Vakele

Fourth Growth. Syrah named a Wine of the Year.

Banele’s wines are new to the portfolio. A formal introduction to come, but wow are we excited to have his wines in California VERY soon.

Vulpes Wines / Nuschka de Vos

Fifth Growth. Vulpes Velox Chenin Blanc named a Wine of the Year.

Alinea / Natasha Jacka

new entry as a Cru Bourgeois, and named by Tim as one to watch for a rise in the 2027 classification.

Aside from the high scores, I want to also send a MASSIVE shout out to Pieter Ferreira, who won Winemaking Legend of the Year.

Spent a couple days volunteering TEXSOM Conference and loved every minute of it.

I’ve always heard amazing things about this conference, and damn it lived up to it. Even got a little slap bag in our after hours send off party 😆 (see last slide)

Saw lots of old wine friends, and met plenty of new ones as we hustled to turn seminar rooms and exhibition halls (and polish a few glasses here and there 🫠)

If you’ve never volunteered at a major wine conference, I highly recommend it. You build amazing camaraderie from the sheer load and speed of the work. But in those down times you get to taste insane wines, chat, and meet badass wine pros from around the country (often the best part of the greater experience). You’ll flip rooms alongside Master Sommeliers of Masters of Wine - or with someone just breaking into the industry - and you never know where that convo will go.

Culture Wine Co. is in TEXAS 🤠

It’s been such an incredible week. Starting with receiving 2026 Rising Star honors from Wine Enthusiast then heading to Texas to officially kick off the market.

Tbh, I quietly launched in Texas at the end of last year in a rather unique way.

I decided to work with Master Sommelier, Brandon Kerne (Brandon Kerne) and AOC Selections to be my retail partner and B2B representative.

So I came here this week to kick off the market, sell wine to some incredible restaurants and wine bars, and run seminars at both locations: San Antonio and Houston.

Brandon even forced me into a CrossFit class and you know I smashed lots of BBQ 😆

Brandon and his entire team are incredible wine professionals. They’ve created such a welcoming place for learning, a real culture of curiosity, and have built and nurtured a customer base that is as wine knowledgeable as any I’ve ever encountered.

Now I’m on a bus from Houston to Dallas for TEXSOM Conference - the fun never stops in entrepreneur-landia 🫣

If you’re not familiar with AOC Selections (follow them), they’re much more than a wine retailer. Brandon and his team have built a pretty incredible wine ecosystem in Texas, from AOC Selections and their B2B business, to The Texas Wine School they’re educating the next generation of wine professionals and enthusiasts, to their state-of-the-art wine storage facility. It’s a seriously impressive operation, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Culture Wine Co. be a part of it.

I am so incredibly honored to be named a 2026 Rising Star by Wine Enthusiast 🤯

To put so much on the line to create a business focused on such an underrepresented country, and to see it succeed, is special beyond words.

I take an immense amount of pride in what I do. I represent the winemakers and the country of South Africa with genuine love and passion. 🇿🇦

I feel stronger than ever that South African wine deserves a serious place in the best programs here. And this recognition is another boost to push even harder towards that goal.

Though, on a day like today, I can’t help but think about all the people who have helped shaped my path.

I’ve particularly been thinking a lot about my late brother and father and how much they’ve influenced my journey.

Particularly my brother, who was a chef. He taught me how to cook at a young age so I could help care for myself and our sick father. He help guide me toward cooking school Johnson & Wales University which ultimately catalyzed my journey into wine. This T***s song was one we jammed a lot together.

Life has weird, and sometimes painful, ways of guiding you toward the place you’re supposed to be. And I know without a doubt that I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

This is MASSIVE.

There are few people who have done more to define, elevate, and champion South African Cap Classique than Pieter.

His influence on the category, and on the way the world sees South African sparkling wine, is extraordinary and I’m incredibly proud to represent PieterFerreiraCapClassique wines in the US

These are deeply complex, serious wines that show the tremendous heights South African bubbles can achieve.

Quick word on 2025:

I genuinely 2025 is one of the greatest South African vintages of this century. Ample winter rain, then a dry and remarkably even growing season. Moderate temps. Kind winds. Slow, steady ripening across the Cape. No drama.

The wines came out ripe without excess, naturally lower in alcohol, packed with acidity, and somehow still deep and generous. That combination of poise and power is rare.

Maanschijn’s debut Luma, single vineyard from the Klein River estuary. Textured, saline, delicious Sauvy B

2025 Alinea Viura
Almost nobody bottles Viura on its own in South Africa. Natasha sources from an older Paarl vineyard on decomposed granite. Bright, textured, quietly complex.

2025 Scions of Sinai Granietsteen Chenin
Bushvines planted in 1978 on Sinai Hill, 2 miles from the Atlantic. Lemon, lime, white peach, lanolin, and a mineral finish that goes on and on.

2025 Brookdale Estate Grenache Noir
Red and black berries, pomegranate, sunbaked fynbos. Silky but structured, with dusty tannins and real savoury depth.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been out and about pouring the brand-new releases from Maanschijn (including the insanely tasty inaugural releases of Luma Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc)

As they approach their 10-year anniversary, it really feels like founders, Paul and Doug, have hit another gear.

Every vintage seems a little more confident, a little more refined, and even more expressive of Walker Bay.

In this video, they share the story behind the property, the remarkable region they call home, and why they named the winery after Maanschynkop, the mountain that rises above the cellar.

Maanschijn (Maan-SK-ayn) means “moonlight” in Dutch, a beautiful reflection of both the place and the wines.

The Scions of Sinai Single Vineyard and Cervantes Series releases have arrived, and it’s one of the strongest lineups Bernhard Bredell has ever produced.

Widely regarded as one of South Africa’s top regenerative growers, Scions of Sinai Wines 2025s reflect one of, if not THE best, vintage of the century.

From left to right:

🪨 Granitas Cape White Blend – A textured, granite-driven Cape white blend with depth, freshness, and incredible aging potential.

⚪ Silika Chardonnay (Maiden Vintage) – Only 500 bottles produced. A crystalline, Chablis-inspired Chardonnay with citrus, sea spray, and beautiful tension.

🍋 Granietsteen Chenin Blanc – Old-vine Chenin from 1978 bush vines. Powerful yet restrained, with citrus, oyster shell, and remarkable texture.

🌿 Gramadoelas Grenache Blanc – Vineyard in the middle of nowhere (Gramadoelas translates to ‘in the boonies’ 😂). Pure schist, high elevation equal Grenache Blanc with electric acidity, saline minerality, and incredible finesse.

🔥 Fēniks Pinotage – Held back an extra year in bottle, the 2024 showcase the serious, age-worthy side of old-vine Pinotage.

🌊 Atlantikas Pinotage – Coastal Pinotage unlike anything you’ve tasted: savory, saline, vibrant, and unmistakably “new wave.”

🍓 Heldervallei Cinsault – Old-vine Cinsault that’s bright, floral, and impossibly energetic. One of our favorite expressions of the variety.

🫐 Krummelklip Cabernet Sauvignon – Cabernet with freshness and elegance rather than power, layered with cassis, graphite, and maritime lift.

🌶️ Swanesang Syrah – Also released with an extra year in bottle, showing pepper, violets, fynbos, and classic granite-driven structure. This vintage screams Hermitage

These wines are drinking so well already, and if 2025 is remembered as South Africa’s vintage of the century, this collection will be part of the reason why.
