Cooking for children has its highs and lows ....some days I put so much effort into it and everything is a miss while on others everything is a hit. This book has lots of info and has kept me inspired. As I flip through its pages I can't wait to start cooking for #2 🍏🍐🍌🍓🍑🍋🍉🥒🥕🥦🌽🍠

Last week I found all kinds of odds and ends in my fridge from meals made over the Easter weekend. I normally would have tossed these things particularly onion skin and asparagus stalks, maybe put them in compost but instead I made a stock. It had such a rich flavor and filled up he house with a beautiful aroma. And this week I used some to make a hearty barley and lentil soup. Use the scraps!

Great video on what seafood is sustainable and which you should buy (if you choose to eat fish!) though I'm not really sold on the sustainability of yellowfin. Best to limit those purchases to pole-and-line caught.

A point Mark Bittman didn't quite address was why anyone should go out of their way to purchase sustainably. In short, our oceans are overfished and many varieties are at risk of extinction...throws the whole delicate thing called the ecosystem off. So eating the sustainable varieties means we are giving the others a chance to repopulate and the health of the oceans to thrive. The way fish are caught is important too because many other types of animals get pulled out of the water along with the main catch.

Lets take care of our planet so many generations to come can enjoy the delicacies of our oceans!

What do you think about a dull knife vs a sharp one? Anyone who works in this field will tell you a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one, so what are you waiting for? Most likely there is someone at your local farmers market that will sharpen as you shop OR your local meat shop or grocery store will do the same.
