I actually do have a story behind all this hummus making. I found out through a variety of ways that my first son had a dairy allergy. I was definitely never into hummus. Seemed like a granola, organic loving, nut eating kinda food. I wasn't necessarily against it either. But when I realized through research I would have to cut out all kinds of yumminess with dairy or the dairy by-product, which i
s basically all delicious, carnivorous kind of foods, I was in shock. My first week sent me into a state of starvation (yes, literally- I lost too much weight. A little on the unwanted side, even post baby). I had to start pounding the peanut butter, nuts, dried fruit, oil etc. to keep calories up with my passion for exercise on top of nursing. Pretty crazy to hit a place where I was trying to keep weight on! And NO, I did not feel healthier! I felt starved and frustrated. Then, low and behold came the hummus (and avocados)- which you will see I combined into one at this point. It seemed pricey to me, ha, until I started making it, realizing it takes all kind of yummies for a beautiful concoction. Hummus came through to "help" fill the void of spreads and cheese (kinda). I started sharing the love with friends-easy dish to show up to parties with. It started to catch on a little, mainly one particular friend, who asked me to make it all the time. After a couple years of this, comes the stay at home mom in me. I could try to earn money doing this, since I can't GO to work. And all that to be said, here I am loving making up these batches of fun flavors and having the best smelling trash you can find after all the squeezed lime, lemons, basil stems, cilantro stems and garlic cloves. Praise God I get to eat dairy again with my second son. Although I keep with my hummus indulging regularly. I love making food for people who enjoy what I make. I love helping provide for my family. And I love the challenge of deadlines and busy energy. So this all works for me. Hope you enjoy sometime (or all the time)!
