My Dream Team of Chicken Breeders: The Ultimate Egg Basket Edition
Okay, hear me out. If I could put together a dream team of breeders to curate the ultimate egg basket using what they have going on right now, this would be it. We’re talking eggs only—color, bloom, speckles, depth, variety, all the pretty things. And every breeder on this list is under 10K followers. Some are small creators like myself, some are a little bigger, but every single one deserves some love.
Cypress Creek Acres — OLIVES. She has such a beautiful, rich, well-curated basket overall, but her olive program is what gets me. From F1s through multi-generational olives and backcrosses, there’s such a gorgeous gradient of greens. If we’re building the ultimate basket, this is one heck of a foundation.
K & K Fowl Play — SPECKLES. Obviously I have a type. Speckles, bloom, dark eggs…and then more speckles. She has some seriously cool ones. And listen, if we’re putting this many chicken breeders in one room together, somebody needs to bring the sense of humor. I feel like she’s got us covered there, too.
Little Deuce Coop — So well-rounded, so vibrant, and SO much potential. Beautiful bloomy Marans, gorgeous speckled olives, and she’s got gray. There are so many different directions you could take what she already has going on. The possibilities are basically endless.
Perera Poultry Homestead — BLOOMS. Pink. Lavender. Gray. Bloomy greens. Yes, there are plenty of other gorgeous eggs happening over there, but those blooms? Chef’s kiss. If we’re building a dream basket, Pereira is bringing that soft, dreamy, almost unreal-looking color.
Feathered Acres — This one is personal because I’ve worked with Feathered Acres quite a bit. I’ve hatched dozens of her eggs and have several girls from her stock in my own flock. Her moss eggers are beautiful, her Marans have given me some absolutely stunning girls, and the temperament on her birds has been wonderfully mellow. I genuinely couldn’t imagine my dream egg basket without Feathered Acres represented in it.
Evergreen Acres LLC — The curation is phenomenal. She has a little bit of everything, yet somehow not a single layer feels like filler. Every egg seems to have a purpose in the basket. And can we talk about the photography? Because once we create this masterpiece, somebody has to sell the vision. Evergreen, you’re hired.
Vagabond Culture : 𝔸 𝔹𝕠𝕦𝕥𝕚𝕢𝕦𝕖 𝔽𝕒𝕣𝕞𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕒𝕕 — MARANS. Rich, deep red-brown, beautifully pigmented Marans eggs that just look like Marans. That gorgeous, solid, unbroken pigment is what draws me in every single time. There are several Marans breeders I admire, but if we’re talking pure dream-team status, Vagabond Culture is getting my draft pick. And frankly, we also need a hand model. Have you seen her nails?
Cluckin Cheetah Girlss — There is never a dull egg. Ever. The greens, the blooms, the depth, the variation—it all feels incredibly intentional. Some of our project directions feel similar, which might be exactly why I enjoy looking at her eggs so much. There’s a cohesion to that basket without sacrificing personality, and I think those genetics could add something seriously special to this imaginary super-flock.
Double Diamond Farms — Give me MORE OLIVES. Double Diamond has such a dreamy variety of multi-generational olives—solid, speckled, bloomy, different depths and tones. And did I mention the bloom? Because THE BLOOM. Between Cypress Creek and Double Diamond, I think our olive department would be downright dangerous.
Isbell Family Homestead — WELSUMMERS. In my opinion, a good Welsummer is practically an essential ingredient in a fancy egg-color project. The dino speckles, the splotches, the variation—I cannot. Some of the prettiest Welly eggs I’ve seen have come from Isbell Family Homestead, and I absolutely need those genetics at this imaginary table.
Winnie's minis — TEAL. That’s it. That’s the paragraph. Okay, not really—but those vibrant teal eggs are something else. True, striking teal is not something you see in every egg basket, and I think it would be the perfect pop of color to round everything out. And yes, the fibro is pretty dang cool too, because sometimes the chickens making the fancy eggs should be fancy themselves.
Put all of that together and tell me that wouldn’t make an absolutely insane egg basket. I’m just saying. Dream team. DREAMING BIG.
