It's one of the questions I get asked most, and I can understand why. Blue and Lavender look so much alike that it seems like they should work together, but they're actually two totally different genes. Once Blue sneaks into a Lavender line, it can hide in birds that look perfectly Lavender, and then show up generations later when you least expect it! 😱
So here it is! How each color is inherited, what really happens when you cross them, and why I reach for a good black bird instead when my Lavender Birchen Marans or Lavender Silkied Ameraucanas need better feathering or cleaner color.
