Manatee Avenue Market-Gumbozilla
⭐⭐
I recently tried Gumbozilla and had mixed feelings overall. The name definitely sets high expectations, especially if you’re familiar with Cajun cuisine.

I ordered the seafood gumbo, but it came across pretty light in flavor. I was expecting a deeper, darker roux and more of that rich, developed taste you typically associate with a traditional gumbo. This leaned more toward something like an étouffée or shrimp creole rather than a true gumbo.

The fried items were also a bit different than expected. They were battered, whereas I was anticipating more of a dredged, Southern-style fry—especially from a truck leaning into that Cajun identity.

Overall, the menu felt a little more geared toward a Florida tourist crowd than a traditional Southern/Cajun experience. Having spent years in Cajun country, I was really excited to try it based on the name, but for me it fell a bit short on delivering those authentic, bold flavors.

Crust n’ Crumb FL
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I recently checked out Crust n’ Crumb and was seriously impressed. For a tent vendor setup, they’re putting out some really high-quality products.

The sourdough is the standout—beautiful crust, soft interior, and that perfect tang you want. They’ve got a great variety too, from savory options like jalapeño cheddar and garlic parmesan to more unique flavors like cranberry pistachio and the BIG Dill. Everything tasted fresh and well thought out.

The pastries were just as solid. The scones were soft and flavorful without being overly sweet, and the muffins were moist with great texture and real ingredients coming through.

Overall, this is a spot worth seeking out at any market. You can tell there’s real passion behind what they’re doing, and they’re definitely punching above what you’d expect from a tent setup.

Lucky8srq
⭐⭐⭐
I recently checked out Lucky 8. The place definitely leans hard into the Cajun vibe, and the menu looked really promising going in.

I ordered the red beans and rice, but overall the flavors were pretty mild and didn’t quite have that deep, soulful Louisiana punch you hope for. The boudin balls were a highlight though—those were definitely tasty and worth trying.

The server recommended the smash burger over the po’ boy, mentioning it had gone viral, so I gave it a shot. Honestly, I probably should’ve gone with the po’ boy. The burger wasn’t bad by any means, just nothing particularly special. It also came on a bun loaded with sesame seeds, which some people might like, but it wasn’t really my thing.

Overall, not a bad spot. There are some good elements here, but it didn’t fully hit the mark for me flavor-wise.

Rodizio Grill - Sarasota
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rodizio Grill Brazilian Steakhouse is definitely one of those spots you save for when you’re ready to go all in. The price is a little steep, so do yourself a favor—show up hungry and ready to get your money’s worth.

The sides are actually really good, full of flavor and well executed, but they’re definitely on the heavier side. It almost feels like they’re designed to fill you up quick, so pace yourself and don’t go overboard—because the real star here is the meat.

And they deliver on that. The nonstop service of skewered meats coming around the dining room is exactly what you’re hoping for. There’s a great variety of proteins—plenty of beef cuts, a solid sausage, multiple chicken options, and even some fish in the rotation. Everything is cooked well, seasoned right, and keeps coming as long as you’ve got the green light going.

Overall, it’s a great experience and perfect for a special occasion or a night where you want to indulge a bit. Not somewhere you’d hit every week unless you’ve got a serious budget, but absolutely worth it when you’re in the mood to treat yourself.

Teak St. Pete
⭐⭐⭐
Tried Teak and left feeling pretty underwhelmed overall. The space itself is beautiful—definitely one of the nicer-looking spots on the pier with a polished, upscale vibe.

That said, the food didn’t live up to the pricing or the expectations they’re clearly aiming for. The menu leans heavily into elevated, high-end descriptions, but the ex*****on just isn’t there. Dishes sound impressive on paper, but once they hit the table, they feel mismanaged and fall short of what you’d expect at that price point.

For what you’re paying, you expect a refined, dialed-in experience, and this just didn’t deliver. It’s not that the food was terrible—it just wasn’t anywhere near the level they’re presenting themselves as.

Overall, a great atmosphere and a strong concept, but the kitchen needs to catch up to the vision.

Pier Teaki
⭐⭐⭐
Stopped by Pier Teaki recently and it’s definitely a spot worth checking out—especially for the view. Sitting right over Tampa Bay, the scenery alone makes it a great place to relax, grab a drink, and take it all in.

The menu is surprisingly affordable, which is a nice bonus given the location. The food was solid—nothing that completely blew me away, but everything was enjoyable and perfect for a quick bite while hanging out by the water. The drinks looked really well put together and fit the vibe of the place.

Overall, it’s not about over-the-top food here—it’s about the atmosphere. If you’re looking for a laid-back spot with great views, good pricing, and a chill coastal feel, Pier Teaki delivers.

Birria king Fl
⭐⭐
Checked out The Birria King food truck and gave their oxtail birria a try.

The oxtail itself was good, but a bit on the fatty side. I was expecting a little more depth of flavor overall, and while the consommé had a nice rich mouthfeel from the oxtail, it didn’t quite deliver on flavor the way I hoped.

I also ordered the elote cup, which fell a little short. It didn’t have that roasted or charred element you want from elote and came across more like corn with mayo and cheese. It could definitely use a bit more attention to bring it up to par.

Service was on the slower side, but it’s a newer truck, so that’s somewhat expected while they find their rhythm.

That said, I can see the vision here. With a few tweaks and some refinement, this could turn into a really solid spot. There’s definitely potential — just needs a little more time and fine-tuning.

Chinelos Taqueria
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heard a lot of hype about Chinelos Taqueria and it absolutely lived up to it.

The birria tacos are easily the best I’ve had — perfectly crisped, packed with flavor, and paired with a consommé that’s rich, deep, and exactly how it should be.

On the side, I went with the elote. It’s done the classic way, but what really stood out was the char on the corn. That perfect roast brought out an extra layer of flavor that tied everything together.

Finished it off with the flan, and it stayed right in line with the rest of the meal — one of the best I’ve had. Smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet.

Everything across the board was dialed in. This spot knows exactly what it’s doing.

Old Castle Restaurant
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Stopped by Old Castle Restaurant and it did not disappoint. If you're looking for truly authentic German food without leaving the area, this spot is easily one of the best around.

Started off with their giant Bavarian pretzel—served warm, perfectly soft, and paired with rich beer cheese and mustard. Absolute must-order. For the main, I went with the Hunter’s Schnitzel, and it was spot on—perfectly cooked and topped with mushrooms and a deep, flavorful brown gravy that tied everything together.

They’ve got multiple dishes dialed in, from sauerbraten to schnitzel, and everything tastes like it came straight out of a traditional German kitchen. The atmosphere seals the deal too—you feel it the second you walk through the door.

Super solid all around. Definitely worth checking out if you’re craving real-deal German flavors.

The Barnyard FL
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Stopped by The Barnyard with a friend and had her order for us to-go… but the food didn’t even make it out of the parking lot.

The chicken sandwich is the star of the show. Perfectly seasoned and super juicy—exactly what you want when you’re craving a solid sandwich. Definitely the standout item here.

Fries were good, just could’ve used a little more seasoning in my opinion—but that’s personal preference more than anything.

My friend grabbed the wings. The flavors were on point, but they came out a little on the dry side. Still enjoyable, just not quite on the same level as that chicken sandwich.

Overall, a good spot with some really strong highlights. Worth checking out, especially if you’re going for that sandwich.

Gia's Kitchen
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Stopped by Gia’s Kitchen this week and I’m glad I did. Had a friend order for us, and she mentioned Gia was super nice—said she even reminded her of her mom. After eating the food, I totally got what she meant. The cooking had that same comforting, homemade feel that took me right back to my own mom’s kitchen.

We ordered two of the fry bowls—one loaded with queso, bacon, onions, jalapeños, and sour cream, and the other was a classic poutine. First off the fries seemed hand-cut. Crispy on the outside but still soft in the center—exactly how they should be.

The queso bowl hit all the right notes. You really can’t go wrong with cheese and fries, and this one delivered. The poutine was simple but done right—cheese curds had that perfect squeak, and the gravy was well seasoned without overpowering everything.

All around, just a solid food trailer putting out honest, comforting food. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area.
