Did you know that Thomas Jefferson is credited with bringing macaroni to the United States after enjoying it in France? He designed a machine for extruding pasta, and created a Mac & Cheese recipe that he thought would appeal to the American palate. Here it is, right out of the National Archives. Don’t plan your Fourth of July and the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence without its co-author’s recipe and Mister Tony’s Macaroni!

Growing up in an Italian American family, Sundays always meant spaghetti and meatballs—and family. The sauce (or “gravy,” as it is called by Southern Italian families who settled in Philadelphia) would already be cooking on the stove before we left for church.

If you would like to start your own Sunday tradition, Mister Tony will have plenty of spaghetti, and is glad to share his sauce and meatball recipe, at the final Spring Islands Farmers' & Community Market tomorrow, June 20. What dad would object to a nice spaghetti dinner on Father’s Day?
