It's Japanese beetle season! These have shown up on the wild roses we have, which work fine as a trap crop, but I know they can get quickly out of hand. My granny used to walk in the garden first thing in the morning, and these were one of the many pests she flicked into a cup of foamy dawn water. I've heard cedar repels them. I have cedar garden beds, think those will provide any help? What's your experience with these guys?

What do you need to maintain your cast iron? Soap and oil! That's it! Please, wash your cast iron - the soap we use today isn't the same as the lye based soap that tore up cast iron. Most soapmakers today are using calculators to make sure there's no leftover lye in their soap too.

It's Japanese beetle season! These have shown up on the wild roses we have, which work fine as a trap crop, but I know they can get quickly out of hand.

I may have built more garden space than I need, but thats okay! we will find something to fill the space with. Today, that something is green beans! They grow quick, fix nitrogen to the soil, and this variety won't get too tall since it's a bush bean. that means I'll have multiple levels of things growing in the garden, which is my preference! I can't wait to see how this garden bed really fills out here soon!!

What's the saddest looking plant you've left in the garden in hopes it might make it? I present to you: a tomato that split at the base, my $150 pepper seedlings I accidentally stripped during unpacking them, and a pineapple tomato I forgot existed. Which do you think will make it?
