So what do you do if there’s a swarm? Here are some tips below.
I have seen swarms rest anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days. If they are somewhere that they need to be immediately removed from, most local beekeepers will come out and remove them. If you have the proper equipment swarm catching is pretty easy. 👍🐝💛

It’s swarm season!
What does that mean? Swarming is the honeybee’s natural way of multiplying and producing new colonies.
It can be scary if you see all of these bees flying around like a tornado. It doesn’t seem like they have any rhyme or reason to what they are doing, but rest assured that within a couple minutes, they will settle into a swarm on a nearby surface. Soon they will move onto their final destination. The only reason they are stopping is to give the queen a chance to rest. (Her wings are pretty small compared to the rest of her heavy body.)
Generally when swarming honeybees rarely sting because they have no resources to protect. As a beekeeper there is nothing like standing in the middle of a swarm when they’re flying. It’s kind of magical.

The swarm we caught yesterday afternoon swarmed again in the evening. Sometimes they have their mind made up that they are moving and that’s where they’re going to go. On a side note, I love watching them when they’re like this. I could watch them forever. 🫶🐝💛

Queens lead, workers serve, guards protect, and foragers explore. Every bee knows its duty—and that’s why the hive never fails. Imagine if humans worked this way. 🐝💛

We had the pleasure this afternoon of visiting a gentleman that lives near us and has a colony of bees living in a whiskey barrel. We got to share some facts about honeybees, their lifecycle and habits. We assured him that they appeared to be absolutely happy where they were at and he’s opted to let them keep enjoying their beautiful home they’ve built over the last several years. Now that’s a strong colony!
I LOVE when we get these chances to interact with our community to share our love for bees. 🐝 💛

As with all things we tend to do, our day didn’t quite go as planned but we figured it out together as we went and got a new colony added today. 🐝💛😆
