We exist to support our local farmers and help connect them with our amazing community!

Our Mushroom Cultivation Workshop was one of the most popular workshops during the Farm Crawl, so we are excited to announce that Richard Belmore at Belmore Farm is offering another class! Richard is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about everything he grows, especially mushrooms. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a true expert.

🍄 Mushroom Cultivation Class
📅 June 14 | 1:00 PM–4:00 PM
💲 Cost: $45 per person

This class will be held rain or shine.

Topics Covered:

• Log cultivation for select saprobic mushrooms (mushrooms that decompose organic matter). Each participant will cultivate their own mushroom log to take home.

• In-ground cultivation techniques for saprobic mushrooms that naturally grow in leaf litter.

• Growing saprobic mushrooms on substrates other than wood or leaf litter.

• Indoor mushroom cultivation using a monotube setup — a fun and educational project for families and children to learn how mushrooms grow.

• Tools and supplies needed to inoculate and grow mushrooms at home.

During this class, you’ll learn how to inoculate logs with mushroom mycelium and properly arrange logs for optimal growth and production. Since not all mushrooms grow on dead wood, Richard will also cover how to cultivate certain varieties directly in the ground, including how to prepare the growing area for success.

As an added bonus, you’ll learn how to grow mushrooms indoors without the need for expensive or specialized equipment.

Don't miss out on this amazing class! Great food and the best people you will ever meet! 🫐❤️

Just read an article from the 'South Carolina Grower' - talking about the 4.5" of rain we got over Memorial Day Weeknd. But then - (and I quote) "Disease is expected to increase greatly, so stay on top of fungicide"
Now this is true, excess or a lot of rain in a short period of time with the heat can be tough on any crop, but boy do I hate that Idea of all that toxin on the berries!
For us our gentle slopes and our efforts to increase organic matter in our soil (to absorb that rain) can be 'first steps' to take before just spraying our food!
So heads up!

Don't forget to join us for "Everything Blueberries" this Saturday, 8:30 - 11:00 from breakfast to picking to in-depth convo about blueberries and what it takes to grow this favorite 'super food'

There is so much that happens behind the scenes to make an event like the Farm Crawl possible! It truly takes months of planning, preparation, and so much hard work from an incredible team of people who care deeply about our community and local farms.

Tonight, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to some of our amazing volunteers who worked tirelessly to make your Farm Crawl experience so special!

📸 Meredith Freeman led our incredible photography team, including Alan Hoglen, Picture Jenny Faith, Meredith E. Photography, and Ella Claire Photography.

🛍️ Jessica Tyler from Cornerstone Design Studio and Kalli Carleton led our merch team.

🎁 Cindi Rossi led the welcome bag team and the Westminster check-in location.

🚜 The Rothell family helped run the Westminster check-in location.

🗂️ Todd and Nadine Onze helped with data organization and led the Mountain Rest check-in location.

💻 Nick at Lake Life Technology designed and continues to maintain our website and serves as our IT specialist behind the scenes.

❤️ The Carleton family led the Walhalla check-in location alongside one of our wonderful Board member families, the McCalls.

📝 Trixi Derosa Davis generously shared her guidance and wisdom behind the scenes

🇺🇸 Students from FFA and JROTC also stepped up in a huge way by helping at check-in locations and assisting with parking at farms throughout the day.

⭐️ We are also incredibly grateful for the Board of Directors of the Oconee Farm Foundation for their support, guidance, and countless hours spent helping make this event possible.

And of course, none of this would have been possible without our incredible farmers, who worked so hard to prepare their farms and welcome hundreds of guests with such genuine hospitality and heart.

We are so grateful for every single person who helped bring the Farm Crawl to life! Let's give everyone a round of applause! JOB WELL DONE! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
