Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a v***r that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. - James 4:14

I lost a friend yesterday. In the middle of a busy day filming and with so many good friends, I got a phone call. It was one of my close friends Shawn telling me our friend Bill had passed away.

We were between videos recording when I talked to him and found out the news. Shawn said I just talked to Bill yesterday and we were planning to go to the movies on Monday and now he’s gone.

I stopped to collect myself and I thought of all the good times I had with Bill. Bill worked with Shawn and I at Sidney James for so long and I was in Jaycees with Bill as well. Imagine me with my legs wrapped around flags on a cart being pulled by Bill’s SUV down Dolly Parton Parkway trying to put flags out while Bill kept slamming on the brakes. 🥹

Bill was larger than life and had a big personality. Now he’s gone and I won’t hear that big laugh again this side of Heaven.

It made me think of James 4:14 and the fact that it could all end in a moment. Life is fleeting. The one thing I can say about Bill is that he was kind to everyone. He never met a stranger and he always wanted to make you laugh. I hope I can be remembered that way too but isn’t that what we all should want? Just to be kind to one another? It could all be over in an instant. Hug your loved ones and don’t take anything for granted. Bill, we love you brother and we are gonna miss you so much. Rest in peace with our Savior. 💔🙏🏻 Love, Brooks

He will be like a tree planted by water:
it sends its roots out toward a stream,
it doesn’t fear when heat comes,
and its foliage remains green.
It will not worry in a year of drought
or cease producing fruit. - Jeremiah 17:8

Life has a way of bringing heat through stress, disappointment, anxiety, conflict, and uncertainty. Every one of us eventually walks through dry seasons.

Jeremiah paints a picture of someone who survives those seasons differently. Not because life is easier for them, but because their roots go deeper. A tree planted near water does not panic when the temperature rises. Its source is beneath the surface. While everything around it dries up, it continues to live because it stays connected to what sustains it. That is what a life rooted in God looks like.

Too often we try to survive on shallow roots. We want the approval of other people, success, money, fame, and we want control. The biggest one can be control. Those things dry up quickly. God invites us to root ourselves in Him instead, which means giving up control and fully surrendering to Him. Prayer becomes the stream. Scripture becomes nourishment. Trust becomes stability. And over time, what is hidden underground becomes visible above ground. Jeremiah doesn’t say the heat never comes. He says the tree does not fear when it comes. Faith is not the absence of hard seasons; it is confidence that your source is stronger than the drought. When storms hit, shallow roots are exposed. Deep roots hold firm.

So today, ask yourself: What am I truly rooted in? Where do I run when life gets difficult? Am I planted near the stream, or just trying to survive on yesterday’s rain? God is not calling you to perfection. He is calling you to remain connected to Him. And when you are rooted in the right place, even dry seasons can produce growth. Even in a drought, those of us who trust in God won’t ever go thirsty because He is living water and to drink in His love and wisdom is divine.

So our prayer is this today! Lord, help me stay rooted in You when life feels dry and uncertain. Deepen my faith beneath the surface so I can stand firm when difficulties come. Teach me to trust Your strength instead of my own and remind me that You are the source that never runs dry. Amen. God bless you and have a safe holiday weekend ❤️

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You.
The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity. You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. -Psalm 4:4-6

The Great Commission calls us as Christians to go into the world and spread the Gospel and to make disciples of all nations. Sadly, today there is a falling away even of faithful church goers who have forgotten what our true calling is as a Christian. As Christians our job is to shine our light and be the hands and feet of Jesus. It is hard to do that when we put self before the mission at hand. As Christians we are called to be different than the world. Why would anyone want what we have if our lives don’t lead by a different example? We see so much going on in the world today and it does seem like it’s getting worse. But how do we grow the Kingdom when we are too busy being like the rest of the world? It really is time to ask ourselves What Would Jesus Do and do our best to live more like Him. ❤️

And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. - John 3:19

There are people out there who love the darkness. People who do and say evil things. Some do it because they are hurt and are lashing out while others simply enjoy the dark side.

It can become very defeating and very easy to extinguish your own light that you want to shine in this world when others work against you to do evil by what they say or what they do to you.

As long as we are here on this earth, that evil will always exist. It’s what we do with it that will define who we are and what we become.

You can’t fight fire with fire. Two fires only spread and destroy. In that same sense, you can’t fight evil with evil. Darkness only creates more darkness.

It’s when the sun begins to peek out over the horizon and the night turns into day. His mercies are new each morning. A new day gives us hope. It gives us new opportunities to shine our own light. Light gives us clear vision and full hearts.

So as you see the dawn of a new day today, simply ask yourself one question. Do I want to stumble in the dark or do I want to have clear vision and shine my light out for others to see?

Jesus is the light of the world and He’s a choice. Make good choices. Shine your light today and help light the path for others. Nothing good comes from the darkness and someday so many will find that out.

Easter is not just another day on the calendar. It’s not just a day to get up before the sun rises or put on a cute outfit for pictures. It’s not just a day to have ham and mashed taters for supper. This day is the very foundation of our faith. It’s my favorite day on the calendar and my favorite holiday. It has nothing to do with Cadbury eggs either. 😉 Everything we believe as Christians rises or falls on one powerful truth: Jesus Christ is alive.

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” — Matthew 28:6

When the women came to the tomb that morning, they expected death. They expected silence. They expected the end of the story. Instead, they found the stone rolled away and the greatest news the world has ever heard—Jesus had risen.
The resurrection is more than a miracle; it is the ultimate victory.

“Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”— 1 Corinthians 15:54–55

Because Jesus rose from the grave, sin doesn’t define our lives. Shame no longer defines us. Death is no longer the end. The resurrection declares that God’s power is greater than our past, our pain, and even the grave itself.
Think about what that means personally. The same power that raised Jesus is available to you and I today.

“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of His resurrection…” — Philippians 3:10

That means hope for your hardest days. That means new life where things feel broken. That means freedom where you once felt stuck.
Easter reminds us that God specializes in turning endings into beginnings. The cross looked like defeat, but became victory. The tomb looked permanent, but it became temporary. And in your life, what feels final right now may just be the place where God is about to move and give you an even greater testimony.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
— 1 Peter 1:3

So today, don’t just celebrate Easter—live in it. Bask in the hope of the resurrection. Let it shape how you see your future, your struggles, and your purpose. He is risen. And because He lives, we have hope. Dolly said it best, He’s Alive!

Christy and I went to the beach in Hilton Head yesterday for some pictures and to see the waves. Mission accomplished! 40 mph winds and even the birds were being slung backwards in flight.

I was able to take the scooter out so far with the help of this beach mat. It almost made a road for me to drive on. At the end of the mat was a sharp decline and quicksand.

I had to stop or I would have been stuck and we might not have gotten it out.

The metaphor wasn’t lost on me. The end of the road can come quickly. One day it will come quickly. Revelation 3:11 tells us, “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.”

Things in your life can change in an instant. Even when the end of the road is in plain sight. Just as the end of the road was in plain sight for me, the return of Christ will be swiftly upon us as well. Make it your goal to hold onto Jesus and don’t let anyone steal your crown. Your reward is Heaven everlasting and that is priceless!

Christy and I made it to Daytona Beach yesterday and the trip was wonderful! We had dinner at a place called Crabby Joes on the pier.

The waves were crashing under us while we ate and the sound was so thrilling. We took this photo off the pier of the waves rolling in and I was immediately reminded of these verses.

We serve a mighty God whose hand can wave and calm any storm in our life. His power is sovereign and merciful yet mighty and strong!

Looking out at the vast ocean was a splendid reminder that we are His children and He cares for us. Thank you Lord for who you are in our lives and please bless this vacation. You have been so much better to us than we ever have deserved. ❤️

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15

This is one of the things we strive to do best in this life! Everything we do we want to give God the glory for it as ultimately He is our provider and our everything! He is the foundation upon which our house is built! We aren’t saved by our works but the fruit we want to be evident!

God has done so much for us and we just want to be His hands and feet here! A humble servant is what we aim to be. We owe Him everything. We are so thankful for Him and it’s good to have this reminder. Are you thankful for Jesus today? Has He done great things in your life too?!

This beautiful butterfly that Christy captured gave me pause and reminded me of a great verse that says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.

Before a butterfly emerges from its cocoon, it goes through a painful transformation before appearing as something beautiful. That was me before I knew Jesus. My life was painful and I didn’t realize I needed a change in my life. When I was born again, I may not have been physically as beautiful as the butterfly but to Jesus I was. I wish we could all see through the eyes of Christ. If we did, we sure would be a lot less judgmental and a lot more loving and forgiving of others. I long to be more like Him.

Never forget, if you have been born again, you are beautiful. You are a new creation. Be proud of that and know that you are worthy of love. You are loved by the God of the universe. I can’t think of anything more beautiful than that. Have a great week ahead and please be good to one another. There is enough ugly in the world already. ❤️

There is so much uncertainty in the world right now with weapons being used in conflict. Times are hard and times are scary. The book of Psalms is always such a beautiful reminder that we serve a God of majesty who is always in control and is never surprised by any of this. When you have the Lord in your life, there is nothing to fear and that’s a reminder we all need sometimes. Thank you Lord for being in control and watching over us. ❤️🙏🏻
