What. A. Week. ❤️🐐🚜
What an unforgettable week it was for Cannon Breeze Farm and our girls at the Washington County AG Expo & Fair!
We kicked off the week by getting Kelby and her Alpine goat, Mint, all settled in for Kelby's very first year in 4-H and her first time ever showing a dairy goat. To say we were excited would be an understatement!
On Sunday, both girls competed in the pedal pull. They didn't bring home a trophy, but they each received a toy tractor thanks to the generous sponsors. Seeing their smiles made them winners in our eyes.
Monday night was Chloe's turn to shine in the Baby Parade, where she earned 2nd place! She also became a bit of a local celebrity after falling asleep while the judges were judging her and ending up on the front page of the newspaper! The funny part? Earlier that day, when Alexis was interviewed by The Herald-Mail and asked one of Chloe's best qualities, one of the answers was "sleep." I'd say that answer couldn't have been more accurate! 😂💤
Wednesday evening was the Pretty Animal Contest. Kelby transformed into Cruella de Vil while Mint became the cutest Dalmatian puppy around. They earned 6th place, and even though Mint decided walking nicely wasn't part of her plan, Kelby handled it with patience and a smile.
Then came Thursday—show day!
Before Kelby entered the ring, it was Tater's turn to shine in the Peewee Showmanship class. She had so much fun getting to experience the show ring, and now she can't wait until she's old enough to officially show next year! We can't wait to watch her continue the tradition.
Then it was Kelby's big moment—her first time ever competing in the show ring!
Showmanship was first, and Kelby earned 9th place. Once again, Mint tested her every step of the way, but Kelby never lost her composure and kept working with her partner.
Next came the Dry Alpine class, where Kelby placed 2nd! She then advanced to compete against three other goats and was named Reserve Champion of the Dry and Yearling Alpine Division! We couldn't be more proud of everything she accomplished.
Throughout the week, the girls cared for Mint, helped other exhibitors, made new friends, reconnected with old ones, and created memories that will last a lifetime.
The ribbons and placings are wonderful, but watching our girls grow in confidence, responsibility, sportsmanship, and kindness has been the greatest reward of all.
A huge thank you to everyone who encouraged, supported, and cheered them on this week. We're already counting down the days until next year's fair!
